First and foremost, if you're really out of shape, see a physician to get a basic checkup. If he clears you for exercise, start out by just doing moderate walks. Extend the distance you walk gradually, and only then consider running.

I am the same way....I used to run every day then quit after I graduated. I was told that if you want to get back into the habit of running, the best thing to do is start out by running, when you start to feel tired, gradually slow it down to a walk, then when you feel ready to run again, gradually pick up the pace. Keep doing this cycle, and gradually increase the amount of running time each week. You'll be getting plenty of exercise and eventually, you will just be running.

Start out walking your intended run route for a week. the following week walk part of the way, run for as long as you can run and then walk again when you can no longer continue to stay the same route. The following week do two runs the same way with a short walk break in between. The following week do three runs and so on until, you simply run without stopping.

Um, start running. You don't have to run fast nor far. You gradually build up to the levels of distance, speed and time. If you can only run three blocks the first several times, so be it. Then shoot for four blocks, then five and so on. You'll get there.

Walk up and down steps, Ride a bicycle outdoors or stationary bicycle!!!! Swimming!!!! RUNNING IS NOT HEALTHY FOR THE Individual!!!! Forget about running!!!!! GO HIKING INSTEAD!!!!

get checked out by your doc, the make steps up to runnin. you had to crawl before walkin remember? over time you will build up to runnin. take it easy on those knees and good luck~!
