If they offered me a smaller plate of donuts I would take one to be polite but, if the plate was larger, I would take two. It depends on how many people were there by how many donuts.

It depends how well you know the person who offered them. If you are comfortable taking donuts from a certain person, then it's all up to you.
e.i. If my cousin offered me I'd take a few, but if my science professor asked me I'd probably only take one.

It all depends on the brand.

I can't stomach Krispy Kremes, but I am good for one or two Winchell's or Dunkin' Donuts.
