Actually, Jesus interaction with women was another thing that made him distinct. In a time when men were not supposed to speak to women in public if they didn't know them, he did. In a time when the man made the choice about what the rules for the religious life of the household was, he challenged women to follow Him. It seems like Jesus always had women around him. He was very close friends with Lazarus' sisters Mary and Martha. He saved a prostitute from being stoned and showed her grace. Mary Magdalene poured oil on his head and washed his feet. I believe that the Bible is clear on the role of women, although many have taken quite the opposite to heart. Paul says that in Christ there is no distinction of race, social status or gender. I think the women of the first century found real hope in Jesus and thats why we always see them around him in the gospels.

He had some women followers.....and no, Jesus didn't go inside a tavern. His feet were washed at someone's house. I think it was a Pharisee's house.

Jesus' most famous female follower was Mary Magdalene. Her sister Martha is also mentioned as knowing Jesus, but not neccessarily following Him around.

The Bible specifically mentions Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of Jesus, Salome, Joanna, and another Mary who was the wife of one of the male apostles, I forget which one.

I'm no expert, but based on what I know of the times, I'm going to say that most of them were men.
