What are terrorists interpreting wrong to assume violence is ok in Islam?

I understand many religions have been interpreted to aid in many peoples causes. I am just trying to understand why many muslims are ok with suicide bombing.

They are reading the Quran, which has some really interesting verses:

Death for apostasy:
Sura 4:89: "They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,”

Kill Disbelievers in a cruel fashion:
Sura 5:33: "Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. That is how they will be treated in this world, and in the next they will have an awful doom."

Slit throats of unbelievers:
Sura 47:4: "Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost."

The Koran says to kill the infidels. There's no room for interpretation. However, in order not to offend English speakers, the translators took the word "kill" in Arabic "ye'tel" and made it "fight". It's less appauling this way. As far as suicide is concerned, it's really supposed to be muslims dying in battle killing off christians, jews and pagans. However, since muslims dont' have strong armies, they are having to resort to terrorist acts. if they die in battle, killing infidels, they go straight to heaven. Other than this, there is no guarantee for a muslim to get to heaven. and most will have to go to hell for a time, maybe 1000 years or so till they pay for their sins. I have lived in the middle east for the last 10 yaers and have learned a lot about islam.

Contrary to the wusses that want us to believe that Islam is a religion of peace, Islamists have been murdering women and children and enslaving "infidels" for most of recorded history.

America's conflict with Islam began as soon as we were a country. Barbary Pirates along the North African coast raided cargo ships and took captives as slaves, selling them in Morocco and other Islamic markets where they had long sold Christians as slaves.

Thomas Jefferson obtained and read a copy of the Quran (the same one that the congressman took his oath on), to understand the zealot-think of the Islamists who insisted that they would wage war and plunder against the "Infidel Christians." When he became President, the pirates, operating from Tripoli, demanded the US pay an $225,000 up front, and $25,000 per year, or they would continue to raid and plunder US shipping. When he refused, they declared a war against America.

In the ensuing victories, American naval forces freed substantial numbers of European slaves from the Islamists, who felt all Christians and whites should be slaves, concubines, or killed; and based their beliefs on a zealous interpretation of the Quran.

Those views have not changed, even as I have personally experienced in casual conversations with Muslims. They feel that any means, including murder and violence, is justified to force conversion to Islam, or to serve Islam.

I can't answer on their behalf, I can't even check their website (so horrid I was told), I can assume that they use the orders in the Quran as they please. When infidels plotted to kill Mohammed (pbuh) and failed, they gathered an army to wipe out all Muslims who were few at the beginning. God ordered Mohammed to gather an army to defend themselves. Only then "Jihad" was declared. Mohammed would never have provoked any to fight and have his men's blood on his hands, unless it was not to defend the religion as ordered by the Devine Being. All verses talk about "whenever you find them, turn each stone..." it is about infields at that time, NOT NOW. We are not obliged to kill non-Muslims in our present time. The fanatics are such evil idiots. Suicide is forbidden in Islam, it is a sin as much as killing another soul. No such thing as bombing yourself for any noble cause.

I don't think many Muslims are OK with suicide bombing. But those that are, aren't OK with it for religious reasons, but because they feel that Israel should not exist and misuses its position in the Middle East. The situation in Palestine is terrible. The fact that the US consistently supports Israel, even when it breaks every treaty there is - is not going to make people feel encouraged that things are going to be alright.
I don't condone suicide bombing myself - peaceful answers should be sought always. But I do understand why people would go that far.

The people of the world of Islam know what the Crusaders did. While you and I may perceive the Crusades as water under the bridge, they do not see it that way. For them, it was just yesterday. They were humiliated and there were massacres. It is just natural for them to assume that violence is the way for Christians to proceed, and it's just tit-for-tat to use violence against them. They still use the word "Crusaders" as an insult to use against all Western foreigners such as Americans and Brits who invade their countries by force. And they hate all Crusaders and teach their children to hate them too, and pass along the stories through the generations. They have no comprehension of a secular society such as the American Republic, and since they only understand societies as thoroughly fused with religion, they assume that all Westerners are Christians, and inherit the responsibility for what the Crusaders did to the world.

There are still plenty of Crusader fortresses scattered throughout the Middle East, to remind them of the Crusades. And they have learned the history of Christians murdering other Christians even before they got to the Holy Land to murder Muslims. The Christian Crusaders of Western Europe attacked the Orthodox Christians and burned Constantinople to the ground. And in France, a Crusade was conducted against the Albigensian Christians, murdering them all and exterminating their culture. One compalint against these Albigensians was that they were tolerant of the Jews; good Christians were expected by the authorities to murder and oppress Jews wherever they found them. Crusaders on the way to the Holy Land to kill Muslims stopped along the way to murder Jews, believing that God would bless them for doing this.

With the dreadful background of Christian violence, it makes sense to modern Muslim fanatics to treat "Christians" (i.e. invading Westerners) with violence, even at the cost of their own lives. Crusaders thought that if they were killed in a Crusade, they would go straight to Heaven. No surprise, then, if Muslims developed similar mythologies, and suicide bombing is a natural outcome.

This is the real problem with saying "it's ok to believe whatever you want". Their religion says it's ok to kill infidels. It even encourages it. This is what belief in something without proof can lead to.

All religions have this potential to perform devastating acts in the name of god. Belief in god makes the world a really scary place.

What Does Islam Say about Terrorism?

Islam, a religion of mercy, does not permit terrorism. In the Quran, God has said:

“God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those who have not fought you about religion and have not driven you out of your homes. God loves just dealers.” (Quran 60:8)

The Prophet Muhammad, may God praise him, used to prohibit soldiers from killing women and children, and he would advise them: “...Do not betray, do not be excessive, do not kill a newborn child.” And he also said: “Whoever has killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance is found for a span of forty years.”

Also, the Prophet Muhammad has forbidden punishment with fire.He once listed murder as the second of the major sins, and he even warned that on the Day of Judgment, “The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed.

Muslims are even encouraged to be kind to animals and are forbidden to hurt them. Once the Prophet Muhammad said: “A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. On account of this, she was doomed to Hell. While she imprisoned it, she did not give the cat food or drink, nor did she free it to eat the insects of the earth.”

He also said that a man gave a very thirsty dog a drink, so God forgave his sins for this action. The Prophet, may God praise him, was asked, “Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?” He said: “There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.

Additionally, while taking the life of an animal for food, Muslims are commanded to do so in a manner that causes the least amount of fright and suffering possible. The Prophet Muhammad said: “When you slaughter an animal, do so in the best way. One should sharpen his knife to reduce the suffering of the animal.”

In light of these and other Islamic texts, the act of inciting terror in the hearts of defenseless civilians, the wholesale destruction of buildings and properties, the bombing and maiming of innocent men, women, and children are all forbidden and detestable acts according to Islam and the Muslims. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the vast majority have nothing to do with the violent events some have associated with Muslims. If an individual Muslim were to commit an act of terrorism, this person would be guilty of violating the laws of Islam.

the Quoran says "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", so when they have a beef they abuse or kill each other (even they have honor killings with regard to women, or marrying outside of their religion) along with other ancient ways which they refuse to modernize to today's society. Plus their people have been fighting for 1500 years among themselves, who are we to think we could ever stop that. Their heritage is family oriented. Seems to me that most of their arguments are family related as in where a son falls from grace for some reason and is never forgiven. It's a religion and heritage thing with them. It's difficult to understand because we don't think that way.

Its not just Islam. All religions feel that they have a monopoly on prayer, being righteous and holiness. So they go out and punish sinners.
