Target has pyrex sets that are good for cooking, baking, and storing. They usually will be stackable. Typically around $20 per set, you should be able to find what you need and they're difficult to break so they'll last.
The cutlery you really ought to spend more for the good stuff. Nothing worse than finding out all your knives can't cut a carrot! I've bought a few decent ones from Hannaford's (local grocery store) called Good Cook. Not too bad, but not fantastic.
You might want to check out a Home Goods, if one is available to you. It's a discount type house-ware store that's affiliated with TJMaxx. Some crap, some quality...you have to poke around.
A lot of people will say try Walmart, but everything I buy from there just breaks the second I get it home.

I have Corningware baking sets that are years old. You can buy a set, but the pieces are sold individually, too. Now, for cutlery. I suggest you invest in a good set of knives that will serve you well for years to come. I have a set of Henckels.... I saved for a few months to buy the whole set. Once again, you can buy these knives individually, but they are expensive. I suggest you scan your newspaper for ESTATE sales. People are trying to clear out an entire home and many kitchen items are on sale very very cheap. I bought a sauce pan at one for $4.00. In the store, it sells for $60.00. I saw Tupperware for 25 and 50 cents. Good luck !!!

Hi honey, it's nice to see a young girl who wants to learn to cook! As for bakeware, like cookie sheets, cake pans, pie pans, etc buy ONLY " AIR BAKE" -- you'll love them & you'll NEVER burn anything !!! They are made of 2 layers of metal with air in-between the layers, so your cakes, cookies, & pies always cook evenly and don't burn ! As for mixing bowls you'll probably want 2 types: glass & stainless steel. Buy good quality stainless & corningware glass bowls. Target has some very nice pots -- they are heavy duty stainless steel with copper bottoms for even heating !!! I bought 4 -- two 1quart (or 1-1/2qt) pots & two 3quart pots (the larger ones have lids -- & I found 2 nice glass lids for the small ones at Goodwill for $1 each--I dont know why they didnt come with lids) -- they are called "CHEFMATE premium" pots : the small ones were $16 each & the large were $20 each -- very reasonable !!! . At Sears I got the most wonderful frying pans -- they are called CIRCULON & have the World's Best Teflon (I never liked Teflon until these pans -- they are tough & dont even need cooking spray if you dont want to use it -- just make sure to use ONLY PLASTIC utensils in Teflon or you WILL RUIN IT !!!) -- the small were $20 each & the large were $30 -- Get 2 or 3 sizes or even the set (set might be cheaper). I bought 3 sizes: sm, med, & lg. ILOVE THEM !!! THEY COOK LIKE A DREAM !!! You will also need at least one non-teflon frying pan: stainless steel -- try to get CHEFMATE @ TARGET: about a 10" pan & get at least 2 - CAST IRON frying pans: a 10", 12" & perhaps an 8" too, you should also get a big CastIron kettle for stews & soups. You'll need what's called a DUTCH OVEN for other things like roasts or boiling corn or lobsters, etc. And you'll need a big roaster for turkey -- but you can hol off on that til fall (they go on sale then, good ones for about $10 @ BB&Beyond. As for cutlery: my chice is -- CHICAGO CUTLERY !!! I got mine @ WAL-MART & they were quite reasonable. You'll need a: butcher knife, a Chef's knife 7" to 9", a boning knife, a paring knife. You can probably buy as a set cheaper (I got mine 1 at a time). As for dishes, your best buy & best quality is CORELLEWARE made by Corning! I've had mine for 37 years & they look new!!! Also, CORELLEWARE will replace any piece that breaks, but they hardly ever break!!! Get white -- they go with everything & you wont be disappointed if your tastes in color changes later on, but they do have lots of beautiful patterns & are available at WAL-MART & perhaps TARGET -- they are available all over the USA, so adding pieces over the years is easy!!! They also make serving pieces. For casseroles and baking dishes I always reccommend CORNINGWARE too! You should buy at least 2 covered casseroles -- that will get you by for quite a while & you can add pieces as you can afford them or as you need them and they'll always match! Make sure you have metal laddles & spatulas for your metal pans & plastic for the teflon, but if you have people who'd use metal in your good teflon then buy no metal utensils or only 1 you need & hide it!!! I had a hard time with my husband cooking when he wanted to fix something for himself, I'd find him with a metal spoon or spatula in my teflon pans & I'd lose it !!! he's not like that now, but for 20 years I had to hide the metal!!!
You'll need measuring spoons, measuring cups, and liquid measuring bowls (quart size glass ones). Good luck & if you need help with anything, incldg recipes, cooking, baking, etc -- feel free to contact me @ petunia1354@yahoo.com (I am a very good cook-- I have been told !). Aunt Barbie
