Are you sitting at the proper distance? Depending on the size of the TV, you need to sit a certain distance away from it to experience the full potential. Depending on the brand as well. I noticed that anything other than Sony, Panasonic and Magnavox looks pretty bad if not the same. Philips is the worst. Since you have Satellite TV, it's not your subscriber. Try plugging in a DVD Player with HDMI conversion and see if the picture is better. If not, it's your TV and not you.

In the stores, they use the high end HD DVD players along with a kick-*** HD Movie. Try it with an HD DVD or a Blu Ray and you will see the difference. Re the satellite, I've found that the HD only channels like HDN have the best pictures. Also, you will see the difference if you watch the same channel if one of them is HD. Check out ESPNHD and then change to regular ESPN and you will see the difference.

Funny, I have Directv and the HD picture on my set is the best that I've ever seen... far superior to store displays. There are settings in your receiver for the outputs that your TV is able to receive... check this as well as your TV setting as already suggested.
You can call Directv and they will walk you through the process or send someone out to fix the problem.
Good luck.

Cable companies suck. They hardly ever deliver the HD quality they are selling you. Get a dish. The picture quality is far better than any cable company in my area delivers. Youre just another victim of the cable company.

Okay, so you're watching a show that says HD. Good, at least you know that you need to be watching something that is actually HD! lol
I would check the setup of your HDMI input to see how it is configured. There might be a setting there that you need to change.

in the shop they are using a HD DVD player and use a HD DVD on it supplied by the company who made the product, so it a perfect match. Also u need to be viewing high def visuals e.g xbox 360 games, sky HD,of a HD DVD. can you change the resolution in the settings perhaps?

I don't know how it works with the dish, but I had that problem with my cable. The signal was a little on the weak side, they came out and fixed it for free. Maybe there is something like that going on with your signal that the satellite people can work out.

at the stores they use hd technology or dvds to get that crisp picture and also the lighting of the store helps the clarity of the picture. thats how they trick you into thinking you will have the same quality at home.

They go to great lengths to put the pricey units in the best lighting situations, at the right height, with color and contrast tweaked to make the image unrealistically vibrant.
