i posted this question hours ago but i guess i did not post it correctly for people to understand. a keyboard already exists it is called a PIANO the input source is a MICROPHONE. a friend's autistic brother plays music on a PIANO (a type of keyboard). it is a Steinberg acoustic traditional type with strings. he can not play on a shortened plastic electronic keyboard...period. so the keyboard exists, the microphone is the input device and now when the sound goes in written music on a staff is on the screen somehow. i hope i am clearer.

I'm sure that "Pro Tools" has an application to record a traditional piano and convert it to piano sheet music, but that could get very expensive. "Finale" uses a mic notator for brass and woodwind instruments. I doubt it would work very well with a traditional piano, but you could try.

Since MIDI is primarily used to record and notate keyboard instruments, there is probably no easy way to play a traditional piano and instantly convert it to music notation.

If you can get your hands on a Roland Digital Piano, all your problems would be solved. Most models have all 88 weighted keys and use a Steinway piano as their piano sample. You could then connect to the computer using MIDI and notate what you just played on most music software.

I would recommend Logic Pro. That's the best software for what you want to do, but it is expensive and requires you to have a Mac. I believe Chrissy meant to say Sibelius. That is another program that will work similar to Finale. I am not very familiar with the most recent versions of those two programs, but my guess is they will work.
