I'm from England and about to take my 'behind' the wheal driving test next week for the first time in San Francisco. Does anyone know how hard it is, what they have you do, where you drive, what will make you fail. How hard *** are they? I have an english license, and I have my CA permit along with a few years of driving under my belt. I can drive fine, i just want to know what I need to do to pass!

Any help would be great!

Thanks you !!!!

I took my "behind" the wheel test in San Francisco and passed my first time. It was actually pretty easy but he'll write stuff down on this clipboard and that made me a little nervous.

The first thing they'll tell you to do is ask you where everything in the car is. Example: left signal, right signal, defrost, emergency lights, and make sure they are all working for else you'll fail on the spot.

Second they'll get in the car and ask you to reverse in a straight line.

After that you pull out of the parking lot and make a right turn. For the next 15-20 minutes you'll drive around the area. Make sure you never go to fast or too slow so always know how fast you're going. Most importantly, always stop behind the white line at an interception. Let pedestrians go first and other cars who were there first. When he asks you to turn, look over your shoulders. The last park is tricky and I almost failed because of it. On the final turn before the DMV, there is a bike line on the left side, be sure to go into the bike lane before making the final left turn. When you're finally back at the DMV, they'll ask you to pull into a 45 degree parking spot. You will not be asked to parallel park.

Let me know how to do. Have fun driving!

It's not so bad- the DMV is located on Fell and Broderick streets- just a bunch of fairly flat one way streets. I didn't have to parallel park on my test, just had to drive around a bit, do a 3-point turn and drive backwards in a straight line. The area is a little busy, so just be prepared to drive on crowded streets- and watch out for pedestrians.

Practice parallel parking on a hill, and the rest will be easy!
