Good for you! Walking and mass transportation are healthier and more friendly to the environment.
Our affluence has created a car-based society and because so many drive it's often assumed everybody does. Don't give in to conformity!

I don't enjoy driving either, but metro Detroit has no public transportation system to speak of other than the few SMART bus routes (nearest stop to me is about 7 miles) and $2.50 per mile taxi rides... They are talking about extending the inner-city people mover train to Ann Arbor, however, that's still no help to our area.
I suppose I could refuse to drive on principle, however I'd be living in a cardboard box if I chose not to drive into work every day....

I did lots of analyzing too..... by using fact i replaced into going to be a sparkling mom and did no longer be attentive to the way it may be to be a mom of a newborn, and my mom handed some years in the past, and that i've got no relatives around. i replaced into kinda freaked out on the comprehensive thought of looking after a infant with purely be and my husband and no help. Then I had him, and instinct kicked in and all my fears went away. i've got self belief thoroughly useful in my potential to be a stable discern. I somewhat have a suited healthful happy infant, and that i'm damn happy with myself too. i be attentive to what you propose approximately some people being over paranoid father and mom, i think of that purely comes with what there character replaced into earlier having youngsters. And confident, society can and does underestimate new and youthful mothers,,,,,,, besides the undeniable fact that it purely makes me much extra proud that i can instruct it incorrect.

I don't drive either. I live in Chicago, and mass transit is GOOD, and reasonably cheap (compared to some places.) I know people may get tax breaks for things like purchasing hybrid cars and such- I dream of the day people who do not own cars and strictly use bicycles, walk and use mass transit- may claim a tax break for contributing to the economy by way of mass transit, keeping roads clearer, putting out less emissions, and taking up less room (as far as parking goes.) Just a dream, but it seems reasonable-- just as reasonable if people purchasing hybrid cars get the break.

You don't drive just because "it is expected"? that's a pretty stupid reason not to drive. if you live in a large metropolitan area with adequate public transportation then good for you, its not a big deal, it saves resources. Society "seems to think" that everyone drives, because in most areas if you don't drive you can't function. A lot of places have no public transit, or very inefficient public transit, and the only way to get around is to own a car and drive. why do you assume that everyone has access to public transportation?
However if you drive like you spell, I have no problem with this decision. I wouldn't want you crashing into my car at 100mph because you thought the sign said "Rediculous Speed Ahead"

So very true, I haven't driven for several years. Gave up my license due to seizures. No longer have them but have not gone through the procedures to obtain another. I don't go out very often or walk. If more people walked, rode a bicycle or used public transportation would help the world in many ways.

Depending on where you live not driving is acceptable. If you live near mass transit or in a city it's easy not to drive. However, if you depend on others to drive you all the time, that's not acceptable. Refusing to drive because it's "expected" is a little silly though.

I don't know, but it's WRONG! My husband has a driver's license, but I don't. Can you believe that he could find only ONE car insurance company who would insure him without me having a licence? The gall of some people. They told him that once I got my licence, they'd be happy to give us their service! UGH! By the way, the only one that did insure us, was Progressive. Keep that in mind when shopping around. He probably didn't check ALL possibilities, but enough to get REALLY frustrated.

society assumes everyone drives as it in instilled in our heads that we must drive as most public transits system is not adequate. in places like New York and Tokyo, Japan or Manila, Philippines etc etc you would will advised not to drive..its a jungle and you are not safe behind a wheel! I would have a chauffeur if i could afford it...i wish my wife like to drive but she is like me and prefers to ride but she does back seat drive me to death lol

I get annoyed when people ask to see either my passport or driving license as proof of id. They assume everyone drives and travels abroad.
