Actually, the Republic of Texas lasted for 9 years from 1836 to 1845, when it joined the Union.

They did not have a navy, and really didn't have much of a military. That was the reasoning behind joining the Union.

But, those 9 years are known as the Glorious Nine Years in Texas History. Now, Texas just enjoys the fact of being the greatest state in the Union, and the most recognized part of America around the world.

If you think I am kidding, here is my proof. I travelled the world in the USMC on ship. I got to visit Shanghai. While there, we had a function with the Chines Military. We got together, and talked about our different cultures. They would ask what state we were from. Buddies of mine would say Ohio, Nebraska, N.C, etc. and really not get a reaction. I would tell the I am from Texas, and they would start in with the Cowboys, John Wayne(who wasn't from Texas), and other things associated with Texas.

Also, the shape of Texas is the most recognized border in the world just above Italy.

We also boast the 5th largest Economy in the world. The US is number one, there are three other countries, and then Texas. If it weren't for Texas' economy, the US would barely squeak by as the largest.

But, do not fret, not everyone can be from Texas.
