When I first got it the photos were clear with great quility. Now I have photos coming out grainy. I have had the camera for just over a year and am still learning how to use it. I also have the SB800 flash unit. What do I need to do to fix it?
Thanks for any help!

check your camera's settings...
and don't be afraid to use it often...you bought it so you can use it. over a year? you should have mastered it by now.

Unless you want to reset everything to default (which you can do in your Menu), check a few things:

1. Hit the ISO button and look at the number that appears on the LCD screen on the top of your camera. Turn the dial while holding the ISO button to get the number down to 200 (a decent all-around ISO setting for your shots).

2. If your photos are grainy when printed, go with a different online printer and see if that makes a difference. Make sure that your resolution is set high (go into your menu) to ensure you're not trying to blow 640 rez pictures into nice 5x7s... it won't work well.

3. Finally, if you're only taking pictures of wheat or oat fields, that would explain why all your photos look grainy. Take some nautical photos, and you should have smooth sailing after that.

You could have the settings all wrong. Make sure to check what it is set on before taking pictures. You may also have to get the camera taken in to a camera store for a lens cleaning and maintenance. I have the D70 as well. I just bought the Canon Digital rebel XTI. The guy told me that you should bring these cameras in once a year to get cleaned and checked out. I never did it with my D70 either. But I plan on bringing mine in as well.

While I'm not extremely familiar with the D70s the problem you describe seems like you may have inadvertantly set the cameras "ISO" setting too high (>800).

Typically high ISO settings are used in low light situations where you sacrifice picture quality a bit to gain light sensitivity. This light sensitivity comes at a price which usually manifests itself as grainy or unsharp pictures.

Check your camera settings or logon to Nikon Digital (http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2&productNr=25218) to find out how to check/adjust the ISO back to 200 which should give you crystal clear results.

Good luck!

change the ISO setting. The lower the number the less grain. good luck and keep playing with your camera it is the best way to get to know it. I have had my D70 S for a year and I am still learning about it.
Grain can be nice in some images.
