If I were single I would get 2200 dollars back and my husband if he were single would get about the same. Why is this I thought you got better tax benifits for being married we filed our taxes and we only got $157. I filled out both forms just to compare and being married is alot less.

Welcome to the Marriage Penalty.

It has always existed as part of the tax code, and although it was mitigated significantly a few years ago, some aspects of it still exist.
