"The smallest feline is a masterpiece." -- Leonardo da Vinci

Your cat is actually doing what it's built for -- hunting during the night. You're cats eyes, ears and physical build are all geared to prowling the evening hours. Even a cat's whiskers are specially designed so they can pick up the slightest movement in the air (currents or say the disturbed air from the motion of a mouse) to help them navigate through the pitch black of darkness.

There are a few ways to help "reset" your cats body clock. Here are a some tips:
-Play with them for about 20 minutes in the morning before feeding them. Getting them active and awake before they eat will keep them from crashing right after feeding time.
-Again, another play session when you get home.
-Before bed give them something to eat -- not much, just a few bite-size treats.
-Engage in an extended petting or brushing session before turning in for the night. This slows their heart rate down and induces prolonged purring -- which cats sometimes use to put themselves to sleep.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about your feline friends nightly romps. All part of who cats are. Hope this helps. --Andy

Cats are nocturnil , sleeping during the day and up at night is normal . In the jungle that is the time when they hunt their prey . I work during the day , and my cat sleeps , when I come home he comes form the bedroom where he sleeps on the bed , and greets me all sleepy and stretching. When I go to bed , he is usually already on the bed ,or in his cat bed. Every night at 1:00 am he comes up on the bed on my pillow ( my tiger tabby is a large male 16lbs at 2 yrs ) so he takes up most of my pilllow , and he starts kissing me on the nose . This routine goes on till 6: am when I get up. So to answer your question, yes, it is normal . You better get used to it ! They are so adorable little pets aren't they ?

Your cat obiously has his time clock wrong. Usually cats sleep when your out and come to life when your at home, if your out at work all day then they usually sleep most of the time and come to life and want to play when you get home. To do it all night he obviously slleps too much during the day, try keeping him awake by playing with him, if you keep doing this eventually he'll be tired at night and sleep, once he gets into the patern of being awake during the dy he should then sleep at night.

it is perfectly normal for a cat to sleep all day and prowl all night, this is because cats are natural hunters, and they are at their best at hunting in the dark. my cat does it every day theres nothing to worry about.

Quite normal, by nature they're nocturnal. Used to be part of the bedtime routine, didn't it, before we got cat-flaps. Turn off the television, put the cat out, find it on the doorstep in the morning with or without trophy to show you . . .

Ye mine is the same!!! I try to get her to play at night cos this sometimes helps. it depends what mood she's in. I've been home all day off work ill since Christmas so she's been a great comfort sleepin at the bottom of the bed when i've been sleeping in the day!!!! She is a great nurse. But this does tend to backfire at night though LOL

cats are naturally nocturnal, and you should try to get it to play during the day and late evening so by the time you are ready for bed then so will you cat. My cat sleeps with me and at about 10.00pm she starts meowing to let me know she is tired and ready for bed, she sleeps all the way through the night and wakes up about 7.00am.

Seems like her body clock is out of synch. with yours. Keep her amused and playful during the day and give her a meal late at night before you go to bed. Should do the trick!

Cats tend to be nocturnal and so that is perfectly normal behaviour. He / she will settle eventually. You don't say whether you have had the cat neutered or spayed if not that could be the solution as that will calm it down. Good luck!
