I got a new waffle maker for my birthday. The problem is everytime I use it, the waffles burn or the batter runs down the sides. What am I doing wrong?

How do you guys make the perfect waffle?

Spray the iron with some non-stick spray before making the waffle. Also, you're adding too much batter. Don't go by the light on top of the maker - that really doesn't tell you anything but the heating element is on.

When you're making the waffle, lift up on the lid -if there's resistance, the waffle isn't done, if it comes up clean, you're good.

Sounds like you're using too much batter. Is there a knob to adjust how dark the waffles are? Turn it to a lighter setting and it should help reduce burning them.

I would give up on waffles and go for hotdogs instead.

You are using to much batter and keeping it in for too long.
