I run 5 miles a few times a week, and approximately half of the time I get a REALLY bad headache about four or five hours after running. It sort of feels like a sinus headache, but seems to start in the middle of my upper back and travel up to my sinuses. Sometimes the headache lasts for a couple of days. I can't figure out why I get it sometimes and don't get it other times. Any suggestions? I love to run and don't want to give up my favorite exercise. Thanks for your input!

When I was younger I use to run marathons and to keep in shape I would run 17 miles 5 days a week. I found that if I failed to rehydrate after the run I would have headaches similar to the ones you describe. As to it originating in you back my only thought is the possibility of a slight infection in your lungs or a sinus condition that hasn't been diagnosed. Try drinking 16oz of water before and after your run and see if there is any improvement.

Good luck...running is great exercise.
