my cat used to get all the attention, and since we had our baby a week ago, he's been acting strange. Twice in the last week, my wife went to stroke him and when she stopped and walked away, he chased her and tried to scratch her!

He has never done this before. Anyone had similar problems?

I have never had that problem but of course he will get jealous. You need to make time to fuss him especially when the baby is in bed. Perhaps unintentionally you have neglected him since the baby was born, you have obviously been busy. Be careful that he doesn't try and cuddle up to the baby either in his cradle or pram! Good luck with the cat and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

His life has been thrown out of kilter with the new addition to the family getting the most attention.

Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Your Cat and Your New Baby". It is the last article in the free article library. It will give you some tips on dealing with the cat and his relationship to the baby.

Yes! We had a cat that would pull his fur out each time we brought one of our babies home. They all react differently to a new baby, especially if they're used to being the center of attention. They're just like an older child, so be sure to spend enough time with your cat. Bring him a few treats and even put the baby down a few times and pick up your cat to just cuddle.

My Siamese laid claim to the cradle in my bedroom. We moved the baby to the crib and she was just fine with the baby after that. She felt she "won" her battle.

Good luck!

In a word; yes. We decided to get a kitten (the 13 year old grumpy old man, I have now) to keep our exisiting four year old cat company. Beauty saw Jet's addition as an intrusion and he left home for six months. He did come back and the two became firm friends for the next ten years.

Most animals when they are used to getting all the attention will become jealous when something or someone takes that away from them. I would try giving the cat for attention if you can.

Yes he will be jealous but will come round.Be very careful you don't leave him alone in the room with baby as cats love warmth and can sleep on their face with drastic consequences.

Yes kitties do get jealous even if there isn't a baby in the house because Bear one of my kitties nibbles me if I don't pay attention to him.
