many bars and establishments have real cash poker games going on in my town. How can this be stopped. Does anyone really care. I think we even hav law enforcement officers playing. Is it all of the sudden legal since nobody cares. Can I join without the thought of being busted. I cant afford another trip to the clink. Who is in charge of these activites and who cares enough to bust them?

You can't get arrested for playing. You can get arrested for running a raked game (a game where the house gets a cut). I played the NYC card rooms for a while and had friends who were playing when the police came. They arrested the employees and took the money, but they didn't arrest the players. From stories I've heard in other cities, it's the same deal.

By the way, you're supposed to get your money back from the police if it's busted, but don't count on it.

First of all, it depends on which state you live in. In California and Washington state, it is legal for bars and restaurants to host poker games.

Even in other states though, you'd be surprised at what the laws actually allow. Usually, there is a maximum bet amount that a state allows. A lot of states even allow home games legally as long as they aren't using large amounts of money.

I'm not sure I understand your question. On the one hand you seem to want it stopped, yet you are asking how to join in. Why would you want it banned, if you want to play?

If these games are out in the open, there is a good chance they are just pub poker games. These are legal because they don't pay cash prizes. Just ask them next time you see them play how to get involved.
