I believe Windows is offering Free upgrades to Vista, if you have an Original version of Windows XP. Depending on whether you have Home or Pro and also depending on which version of Vista you plan on upgrading to. You will need to pay the difference. I believe that is all. =) Best bet is talk to the company you purchased the computer from. But from what I hear, you should be eligible for free upgrade, by paying a fee for the difference.

Microsoft is offering free or low-cost upgrades to Windows Vista to users who buy a PC loaded with Windows XP before the launch of the Vista operating system.
The promotion applies to Vista-capable PCs bought from today (26 October) until 15 March 2007.

Yes, and your computer should also have the minimum requirements. Most companies made deals to have the upgrade to vista so that you would keep their computer, its a pretty nice appeal to since its at least $100 to upgrde to Vista from Windows XP. You're upgrade should be available by now, if you need further help call your computer provider and ask them where your upgrade is

I am in a similar situation and I am receiving a free upgrade through my retailer, not directly from Microsoft. Any reputable retailer would do this for you in order to maintain good customer relations. Microsoft, on the other hand, may not be so generous because they have a stronger financial bond with the retailer than they do with the end-user in a case such as this.

Possibly, check with the PC seller to find out. A lot of insentives to buy computers now is the opportunity to get Vista for free. Best thing to do is ask.

Yes, but you must first download the Vista scan to see if your computer can hold the memory. What you will get is the basic, but you can also upgrade at a nominal fee.

Probably but you should check with the company you bought it from.
I have a friend who bought a computer in December from Gateway with XP installed and a free Vista upgrade when it was released.
