You should definitely start "messing" with the puppies feet NOW. He may not need his nails trimmed yet, but the touching will help him get used to having you handle his feet. Be sure to seperate the toes, kind of go through the motions of cutting the nails without actually doing it. If your puppy spends time outside, he might not need them clipped for some time. If this is your first dog, ask the vet to show you how and show you what the length should be. You do NOT want to cut them too short as they will bleed quite a bit. Good Luck!

You should definitely start now. If you don't, the dog will be less likely to be patient with you later. There is no reason to wait until they are a year old. But ALWAYS just cut the ends off. Some nail cutters actually come with a built-in block that prevents you from cutting too much of the nail. That way, the nail will no longer be sharp, but you won't make your puppies paws bleed from the nail being cut too short, because that can be traumatizing for you as well as the puppy.

Now is a good time. Next time you take your puppy to the vet, have the vet show you how to do it so you don't hurt your puppy when you try it yourself. Also, when we first got our puppy, the vet recommended that we touch and pet his feet every so often so he gets comfortable with us touching them and will let us clip his nails with no problem.

Start now. I start clipping puppies' nails when they are just a week old, then do it every week so they are used to it.

Now is a good time. We usually start clipping our pups' nails when they are 5-6 weeks old. When you start doing them early, they don't mind it so much.

When the puppy is no longer a puppy. 1-2 years would be the best time.
