Maybe. Read
http://www.tedpack.org/obit.html
It has some links, or I'd copy it in here.

I am sooo sorry for your loss. You might wanna try Legacy.com. My brothers obit was there for about a month or so. He passed last year from cancer. Also If you know the names of any of the news papers where your friend lived, they might have a website & list the obit there. That usually only lasts about a week, but it may have a link to Legacy, or another site with obits. Also try the funeral home. The one we used for my brother sponsered his obit on thier site too. These are just a few suggestions I hope will help you. You will be in my prayers.

There should be a local newspaper. Type in the newspaper name and you will be able to contact them or pull up the obit from their web files. This is usually free or does not cost a lot for the copy of the obit.

Try your local library if it was a death that was posted in your local newspaper. They usually have them stored on microfische. Also, if your library has a geneology department, and most in a city of any decent size does, they are usually hooked up to several online resources you can access FOR FREE. Sites like ancestry.com, i.e., border on fraud. It is public access information and should be available at your library. Ask them at the desk and they should be able to help you.
Good luck.

One site you may want to go to is findagrave.com. You don't need to sign up to view the records on that site - of which there are about 14 million. Your friend may have a record on that site already, but if you want and are willing to sign up you can add the record yourself.

If you know the area that he died in, get the online obits from the newspaper from that city.
