Unfortunately we cannot end the war in Iraq -- it would go on with out us. Seems like somebody's been fighting there for centuries.
Do i think we should pull out? Absolutely.

We have already won the war. We got rid of Saddam, so we accomplished what we went there for. Now we have to help the government quell the sectarian violence that has gotten out of control. Hopefully things will be more under control by the end of the year, but I don't think we can leave till the government can completely take care of itself. I'm hoping by the end of 2008, we can start withdrawing most of our troops. We will still have troops there for the reconstruction projects which will be years in the making. This is a very lengthy project we are engaged in. Democracies aren't formed over night. These things take time. It took Germany a decade or two to recover from Hitler's rule and the devastation of WW2. I'm guessing it will be the same for Iraq. We are there for good.

The aggressive presence in Iraq will be there for a long time. We cannot just up and pullout until we are sure of the stability of the countries infrastructure. To do so would mean two things: 1) The rest of the world could be dragged into another war in the future and 2) America would be blamed again for pulling out too soon and leaving people to fend for themselves. Stability is the key. Stability with direction from the UN to keep all sides in a passive-non waring state of mind.

Great question amazon! The difficulty of war is knowing when it over then how do we leave? Do we go out shooting, and just leave all our military equipment behind like what happened in Nam? Seems here knowing when it's over is the first question to be answered. The question of we should have never gone is already answered and the next needs addressing. It' has appeared to the majority we are intangled in a religous war, which NOBODY wants. I believe this administration projects to us 'what happens if we leave it gets worse where fanatics overthrow what we've started and we have to go back but congress dos't permitt it. I feel Bush and his constiguants backs are against the wall and are buying time, hopeing to leave it to the next president. Same as LBJ did. Nixon took the fall for what Kennedy actually started and LBJ escalated much has happened in the Iraq struggle. From Reagan to Bush to Clinton to Bush. He'll pass it on.

The first thing we need to do is kick out every reporter, no matter who the work for. Starting with CNN. Confiscate every camera and destroy them. Then we need to give warning, so that all of the good people of Iraq have a chance to leave, by setting up strategic check points. Next, call in the bombers. Bomb the hell out of the place for a week straight. Then send in the tanks and artillery destroying every thing that moves. Last but not least, send in the troops to clean up.
The only way to destroy an enemy that is not afraid to die, is to kill him by any means necessary. Take the gloves off and unties the hands of our soldiers.
However, I think that we will be in Iraq for ever, it will become another Korea.

First of all, you're in over your head. These people have been fighting for years and are experts in guerrilla warfare. You on the other hand (US Army) have trained only in simulated exercises in a VR environment. Thus they have the upper hand. The case of winning is out of the question. The army at this point is just the pawn which is used as means to an end. The idea is to get possession of the petroleum supplies and the general destabilization of the area.
What is funny is that the US in its minute time of existence is trying to destroy one of the greater civilizations that ever existed in the general Mesopotamian area. Even funnier and more tragic is the fact that during its existence the US have taken part in wars that are of no immediate threat to its grounds. I don't have anything against Americans but it is time that you started reading history and taking greatly into consideration your vote.
And for the sake of it: Just take your people out of there as soon as you can, and let these people resolve their own problems without you acting as a referee.

we will win when the tribal factions ALL have equity in the economy and political representation of Iraq.this way, true democracy will be achieved.and yes, there will still be radicals, but that problem would be more easily handled by a centralized Iraqi government.
also, more Special Forces should be utilized to do what they do best-work with the locals-given a free hand, and given unlimited resources and FULL SUPPORT from the other military commanders in the region

In reality, we will be there for years to come, regardless of what politicians say. How will we win? Well, that depends on your definition of winning.
In my opinion, the best thing to do is get our troops out now, and let Iraq fall into civil war, us being there is only prolonging the inevitable. Some experts already say Iraq is in a civil war. In short, getting out now isn't "cut and run."
In summary, the U.S.being in Iraq is hindering progress in Iraq, if the Iraqi's are depending on U.S./coalition forces for security, then what's their motivation to want to take charge of their government? That's why we need to pull out and bring our troops home now.

I firmly support our troops and my heart is broken at the losses and mangled bodies of our brave men & women. The war will never end in my view. Their are no winners. Wars and rumors of wars lie ahead of us. The Bible is unfolding right before our eyes and yet there are sciptics. We are a retired military family going back into WW2 and we stood together then and our values and morals and life and honer and respect was all so different then, than it is now. It breaks my heart to think of the deteration of this world. I thought it couldn't get worse, but that was childish thinking because it has and it will till the end of time.

The politicans need to stop fighting the war and let the ground commanders fight it, until success is achevied. The crap going on now is the same BS that happened in Vietnam. How will we win? Change tactics, get new war plans and get down right brutal with the insurgents. It something most Americans or anyone else does not want to admit, but we need to get brutal with these people. The Nazis are the only people in modern history with success against insurgents and I hate to say it, but we need to try some of those plans.

The US military has had it's hands tied since we've been there.
That has now changed.
1st, SEAL THE BORDERS - This will eliminate the supplies of insurgents that are coming from Iran and Syria. This is being done now.
2nd, Arm the Iraqis to the hilt and turn them loose to hunt down insurgents (terrorists) in their own backyard.
3rd, Once insugents are either eliminated or cut-off from supplies, the security of the country will be in the hands of the Iraqi people.
The troop surge and new aggresive tactics are the only way to have a chance of providing the best opportunity for Iraq's success as a self-providing country.
Hopefully, we can see this through with the stamina it takes to defeat people that just want to die in martyrdom anyway.
August - 2007 - massive demobilization of US Troops. Enough for victory and I'm sorry to say, in time for the November election.
