Nice question. Sort of amusing how many people didn't realize it was rhetorical, eh? :-)

In America it comes under the heading of patriotism and therefore the defense of my country.
Christian activists are rude and do not know their rightful place in this society.
They all too often violate the rights of others .
If Christian woman gets pregnant and chooses not to have an abortion she is within her rights not to have one.
She does not have the right to prevent another woman in a similar situation from having an abortion.
You have to understand that at it's core modern American Christianity is a religion that could have been invented by a 12 year old child
A 12 year old lives in a world where actions don't have consequences. The 12 year old intellect- since it lacks experience-places a very high value on the truths of an idealized world.
that 12 year old also deals in absolutes quite often .
So Christ is a man -child. He neither smokes nor drinks nor gets married nor has sex. He has a non-muscular adolescent body and his mother was a virgin .
So when a 12 year old child tells a pregnant woman that she can't have an abortion. The
fact that he may have just condemned that woman and her child to a life of poverty doesn't enter the equation; The only duty the 12 year old has is to the ideal not the real.
The list goes on;
Contrary to Christian dogma ; The right to marry is granted by the State not the Church.
In the absence of a valid marriage licence granted by the State a marriage in a church is not legal.
When gay marriage becomes legal it will be because the Supreme Court realized tyhat under the 14h Amendment the government does not have a legal right to prevent it.
and under the full faith and credit clause of the US Constitition a marriage in one state must be valid in all states.
If you are gay and Christian and and you don't want to marry your your beloved -fine that is your right.
You violate others rights by trying to prevent it.
The list goes on into other things like prayer in public schoos , which textbooks are used , what subjects can be taught.
In all cases "Christians" don't seem to be satisfied with living thier own lives according to their own beliefs. They have developed this nasty need to impose their own values on others and that is unAmerican
They don't have the right to do it and should be actively discouraged in their attempts to make America a theocracy
The Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing when the created the Separation of Church and State. In one magic moment they tgranted the People freedom from religion .For the first time in history the political chessboard of power did not have bishops sitting next to the king and queen.
Amazing !!

I guess some of my answers could be interpreted as bashing, although i never call anyone names or go after them personally. I try to answer questions based on my experiences, most of them as a Christian.
I think you will find that there are alot of ex christians out here who have been beaten up pretty bad by churches, family members, and friends. It is especially hard to deal with when these people are all meant to be Christ-like. Nothing will make you bitter like finding out that your Christ-like father has been having an affair with the pastor, or your Christ-like mother is kicking you out of the house because you chose a different denomination. Its tough to hear that Christ-like parishoners are talking about each other like they are enemies. It just gets really old for some people after a while.
I think the bashing comes into play when ex christians who have been through terrible experiences here other christians talking about how wonderful the religion is. Most ex christians just want honesty in the conversation, and a natural response is to attack.
When you have been hurt by something, the last thing you want is for someone else to go through the same pain, bashing ex christians are just trying to help.
Christians who read this will say that its not true for all, which is true, but overall, I think that there has been to many wars, and too many broken homes and relationships directly related to Christianity to be ignored. If you look around you will find so many problems and pain that it is unreasonable to be upset at ex christians who are upset with the religion.

Speaking from past experince...I was once a member of a church and went to a christian school. I am now an athiest. I try to avoid bashing Christianity or any other religion. I think that they are very interesting as a whole. HOWEVER< I have been bashed by christians, muslims, and hindus that I know. When people criticize my beliefs, I tend to become defensive. I am not saying that I never start the religious disagreement....but I do not think that Non-Christians are always the one who start the bash-fest!

If you read through a little history, and perhaps some sociology as well, you will find your answer I think. I will say this, if Christianity stayed out of politics and policed its own members, had a "passive" message to non-believers instead of the "power sales" variety of recruitment tactics, and stressed doing good to get into heaven instead of scaring people out of doing bad lest they go to hell, and of course if they didnt have members that insisted on going to war with other religions (just like the muslims do)then I suspect there wouldnt be a lot of bashing going on. This small short little list is only just that. There are thousands of reasons why the 3 major religious sub-divisions get so much heat. Not the least of which is that currently nearly all the conflict areas on the planet have some religious involvement or reasoning behind it, if not entirely. I am actually surprised that anyone would even need to ask such a question, my only guess is that you must be either very young, or very sheltered. Either way, religion (regardless of type) has been one of the top 3 reasons people go to war since before written history. Religion promotes violence, regardless of the religions intentions. Human nature will force its way into any organized social structure and poison it from within. It has done so with religion, it has done so with governments, and it has done so with corporations. There is no avoiding it.

Picture Westboro Baptist Church....think about that for a sec...How many Christians are there actually following the word of Jesus in the media?
How many of those followers are making a fool of themselves in the spotlight...None.
Christians are portrayed as hypocrites, bigots, pedophiles, and advocates for violence. Remember the crusades, the puritans, the slavery? This is what people think of when they think of Christianity. Do they think of the starving children that are fed, and receive medical care? No, they think of anti-women's rights regarding abortion.
The jist of it is, there are a lot of Christians trying to dictate in the US. They are trying to force people to share their same views. Pro Life, Str8 marriage only. There are Christians that do not meddle, that do not hate, that do not shun. But these Christians are at home, with their families, or on a mission to a starving country, not out at the polls, babbling on TV, or protesting at the courthouse.
This is why Christianity gets bashed so often. Don't take it personally.

The truth, not just Christianity, always gets bashed. Jesus encountered this daily. Look at the demons that felt compelled to confront Jesus. It is like moths drawn to the light. Evil is compelled to confront Good. So I say it the evil inherent in the rejection of Christ which compels confrontation with those who accept Christ. Ironically Christians are often guilty of bashing. We bash each other's denominations. Some Christians bash science and other religions. We have to be very careful. The good seek the truth. Jesus is the Truth, and Christians seek to follow the truth found in him. Nevertheless there are other paths to the same truth leading through other religions and philosophies and scientific disciplines. This too is of God. There can be no truth apart from God. The true Christian knows that God is revealed in all of creation, because he is after all the creator. If science identifies an aspect of the truth then that is of God. If another philosophy shines light on an aspect of the truth then God must be present in that. One of the miracles of scripture is how often the truth finds itself on the lips of demons and non-believers. The truth is, and must be heard, even when revealed through those who do not believe.

Why do they feel so threatened by the beliefs of others just because they are different then their own beliefs? Why would they/you get so stirred up about something they don't believe in?
You're kidding right? Have you not been reading this site or are you being wilfully blind? Many, not all, but Many Christians have attacked, berated, judged, declared that people will go to hell, name called and more at everyone who even dared to question them.
To quote the 'good' book: As you sow, so shall you reap

"Why do they feel so threatened by the beliefs of others just because they are different then their own beliefs?"
You can't ask an honest question, can you?
Why would you put something like that in an attempt to complain about other's behavior? Did you think that we wouldn't notice that you're lying?
This would have been a good time for you to have been honest. By instead jumping right in with a lie, you completely undermined your point. Next time, try honesty. It works far better - believe me.

Have you ever read on the history of your religion? Lets start with the rampant rape and murder of most of Europe, i might add, they killed those people because they were had different beliefs. Ever heard of the christian hero Charlemagne, well to non Christians they call him the butcher I could go on and on about this evil christian but ill just tell you one thing. he rode with his men into a pagan village and ordered all of them to convert, of coarse no one would leave their own faith to join a strange one so with good christian compassion he beheaded everyone in the village men woman and children. Then there is witch burnings on and on. suffice to say non Christians have cause to fear your religion

Well for me it is the arrogance and hipocracy of "Christians" that I bash. I dont bash the religion only how it is used. If all so called "Christians" honestly and truly followed the teachings of Jesus the world would be a great place. I have however met several "True Christians" and they remain my dear friends to this day!!
