What is the Penalty for Committing Rape?

Besides homicide, rape is generally considered the most serious crime. The penalties for rape vary from state to state, but commonly the maximum penalty is life in prison or a lengthy sentence of many years.

The best option for obtaining the "sources" would be to look at individual State laws under "Maximum sentencing for rape" and also look at the Federal laws for rape as well!

Best wishes!

This will vary by state, and the degree of the crime, the age of the victim, if weapons were used, the lenght of time in the commission of the crime, taken across state lines or international borders, bodily injury (other than the rape itself), there are many factors to consider.

I guess it all depends on who they raped! We had a guy that got 3 years for taking a chicken to a motel and raping it! no I am not kidding this is true, he just got released for this crime but was sent to another jail for 3 years for probation violation.

It varies from state to state, as well as the facts of the case, so there isn't some sort of national standard.
