Just to add to everyone's comments, Thankyou for your repsonses so far- I would just like to know from those who have low blood sugar episodes, if they drink? and what they drink? I do not plan on drinking alot, but to have the occassional social drink (304 beers sometimes). At this point I am just scared of the unknown and trying to get some information. Thankyou all.

Many alcoholics have a blood sugar problem in either direction. Alcohol is turned to sugar by the blood. With your condition, you would probably feel the alcohol quicker than others. The barley and hops which they make beer with turns to sugar. The other liquiors ingredients also turn to sugar once in the body. Many heavy drinkers become diabetics. Don't risk your health for alcohol.

There are very few sugars in alcoholic drinks unless you mix a sugar-laden mixer with it. What does happen, however, is that the simple carbohydrates in beer are converted by your body into sugars. This is why diabetics should consume much alcohol. Actually ethanol (vodka) is a carbohydrate as it contains carbon and active hydroxyl groups (OH). The adverse effects of alcohol is the additional load it places on your liver, which has the job of detoxifying compounds within your body. You should always monitor your blood sugar and carry glucose tablets (available at your local drugstore) to take when you have a hypoglycemic episode. Also, PLEASE get a medalert bracelet that would let a first aid responder know that you have been diagnosed as hypoglycemic. This might be the difference between a nasty memory of the event or attending your own funeral. Hypoglycemia IS a life-threatening disorder and MUST BE TAKEN seriously.

Alcohol stops the liver from releasing glucagon and when the reserves are gone, you go into a coma due to a low blood sugar. This happens to people who do or don't have diabetes. It's called alcohol poisoning. Make sure you use alcohol with food and do add the carbos from any added fruit juices and such. Alcohol lowers your blood sugar.

All alcohol has sugar. It's all bad for you if you have low blood sugar. Drinking will temporarily raise yourblood sugar. Then it will fall below your normal. At that point, you can go into a coma because your brain is starved of nutrients.

I have low blood sugar and drink on occassion. Less sugary drinks are wine and beer. You'll get drunk faster.

Any kind of medical condition would prompt an intelligent human being to take better care of himself.
Omit everything in your diet that is detrimental to your health, you owe it to yourself and your family.
