- Build a garage
- Buy a truck cover
- Use a motion activated sprinkler or light system targetted on the hood of your car
- Use a car alarm set on a sensitive setting (until the cats learn not to go there)
- Sprinkle a cat deterent on/around the truck; tabasco sauce, OJ, bitterapple spray, etc
- Ignore it. The cats won't hurt your truck.
Trapping won't work, nor will shooting, because if you're talking about feral / outdoor cats... there are always plenty more where that came from (same goes for mice, actually - do you really want to empty and reset 20+ traps every day?)

Bring the cats inside or as you said-use the 22. I'm sure you won't ever feel the bullet pass through your worthless skull. Your truck is worth far less to the world than those cats.
Though, before you go shooting yourself,I'd suggest some humane cat traps. Then just take them to the local no-kill shelter (or humane society if you guys don't have no-kill shelters).
There's no reason for you to have mouse traps on a farm,by the way. You'll never catch them all and eventually they'll just ignore them all together. Farm mice are -smart- mice.

You are a SICKO! Do NOT shoot these cats, what's the matter with you? Cats naturally gravitate to a warm spot, and I assume that this takes place shortly after you've parked your truck. Get a truck cover (just like a car cover) and cover the thing up at night. The cat footprints will not leave marks on the canvas cover. Also, PLEASE KNOCK once or twice on your hood before starting up the truck in the morning. The cats will go under your truck and get up by the engine for warmth. I doubt that you'd want to clean cat guts out from the entire area under the hood of your truck. AND--just another thought---if you now live on a farm, you just may want to keep these kitties around to keep the mouse population down.

The cats are crawling over your truck because it's warm. They probably aren't interested in it once it's cooled down. The car alarm is a good trick, even if you have to watch your truck until it cools and set the alarm off manually. A few negative experiences with the truck will cause them to stay away. If they're always in a particular spot in the truck, make yourself a "mat" of duct tape and place it right in that spot sticky side up. Cats HATE sticky surfaces and will have yet another unpleasant experience when hanging out on your truck.

My brother just bought a new car and the very next morning it looked like there was a pretty happening party going on, on the hood of his car. We think it was broken up by a racoon. There must be something about a new car that brings out all the animals...
Anyway...I dont' think there is any perminant way unless you are out there to catch them every single time.
Good Luck

Try getting a truck cover. Or, try making friends with the cats. We can all take some self improvement.. they are probaly fond of you and liking to visit.
Please do not shoot them, not only is it a crime, but it is very bad karma for you... and very unfair to the little kitties who are just exploring your nice truck. they won't hurt it, dent it or scratch it, cats paws are as soft as velvet. give it a try.
that being said, you can purchase at the pet store a deterrent spray, that is not harmful, yet very unpleasant smelling to the cats. But i suggest you take the cheap route and make some new furry friends.

If you want cats to stay off your truck, here is a good way: Buy a car alarm if you don't already have one. Set it to the most sensitive setting it has. If a cat jumps onto your car, the car alarm will go off and scare it. It will never jump onto your car again. Once that happens, reset the alarm back to a normal setting.

Put a motion detector light over your truck to keep them off. Also remember that the CATS are keeping your mice/rats under control.

They will not harm your truck so what is the big deal? Material things are so much more important than living creatures. Get a cover for it. You going to start shooting birds for pooping on your car? Killing is not the solution.
