Hi !!!
This is what I would make...

"Chinese Almond Cookies"

1 cup (1/2 lb.) butter or margarine, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon milk
1/3 cup blanched whole almonds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

1. In a large bowl, with a mixer on medium speed, beat 1 cup butter and sugar until smooth. Add whole egg and almond extract and beat until well blended. Add flour and baking powder; stir to mix, then beat until well blended.
2. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, flatten each slightly, and place about 1 inch apart on buttered 12- by 15-inch baking sheets.
3. In a small bowl, beat egg yolk with milk to blend. Brush cookies lightly with egg mixture; discard any remaining. Press an almond into the center of each cookie and sprinkle with about 1/8 teaspoon sesame seeds.
4. Bake cookies in a 325° regular or convection oven until lightly browned, 15 to 20 minutes; if baking two sheets at once in one oven, switch their positions halfway through baking. Let cookies cool on sheets for 5 minutes, then use a wide spatula to transfer to racks to cool completely.

Chinese Walnut Cookies- Chinese Holiday Recipes

Makes 40 - 45 cookies

Chinese Almond Cookies

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/3 - 1/2 cup walnut halves or large pieces, toasted, finely chopped (see bottom of recipe directions for instructions)
1 egg, lightly beaten (optional)*

PREPARATION:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (162.5 degrees Celsius).
2. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a medium bowl.
3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter or margarine, shortening, and white and brown sugar.

Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and beat until well blended. Stir in the toasted walnuts.
4. Stir in the flour mixture and mix well. Use your fingers to shape the flour mixture into a log-shaped dough. Wrap the cookie dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours.
5. Cut off a chunk of cookie dough (approximately 1 tablespoon) and form into small balls about 1 inch in diameter. Place on a lightly greased cookie tray, approximately 2 inches apart. Press a walnut half into the middle of each cookie. Brush around the walnut with the egg wash if using.
6. Bake the cookies at 325 degrees for about 15 - 17 minutes, or until golden brown. When thoroughly cooled, store in a sealed container.

How to Toast Walnuts: Heat the oven to 350 degrees Celsius. Spread the walnut halves out on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes or until they turn golden brown, taking care not to overcook. Remove from the oven, cool and chop.

These cookies have a chocolate filled center and are just soooo yummy. They are really quite easy to prepare. Give it a try......you're gonna love them. You can use pre-made chocolate fudge from the grocery store for the filling.

Good Luck!!!

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups cake flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup ground walnuts
1 cup prepared chocolate fudge frosting
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening. Stir in the egg and vanilla, beat until light and fluffy. Combine the cake flour, baking soda and salt, stir into the creamed mixture. Dough will be stiff, you may need to use your hands to mix. Roll dough into a log about 15 inches long, and roll in the ground nuts. Wrap and chill dough for at least an hour or until firm.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
Unwrap dough and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Place cookies 1 1/2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before removing to cool completely on wire racks. When cool, place a dollop of fudge icing onto the center of each cookie.

I think it's possible to make Chinese fortune cookies seeing how you want to make them to celebrate the Chinese New Year but I don't have a recipe for you. You could look one up online or see if there's one on the side of some box of fortune cookies that you see in the store.

If you are a beginner in cooking why don't you just try something really simple....Try a basic Chocolate Chip Cookie. You may want to snaz it up a little by simply adding nuts or even M&M candies(for the celebration). Enjoy Happy New Year

Rice Krispy Cookies are always very simple to make, and most people love them. There are just three ingredients Rice Krispies, marshmallows, and butter. They also take little time to make. There are also other variations such as choclate, and peanut butter. If that doesn't sound good, try Toll House bar cookies. All you do is mix the batter, and spread it in the pan, and bake. Good luck., and enjoy.

You might want to invest in a good cook book. Sugar cookies are simple, though. And tasty!

You're brave baking for a party - especially if you're just starting out.

My suggestion - go to BJs or Sam's club, and get 600lb Gorilla cookies - bake them off and call them your own. It's much faster and easier if you're just starting.

Practice baking and cooking all year, and next year you can make something. You don't want to promise something, and have it fail. That's happened to me, and it was not good.
