About a week ago, I went to the doctor and found out I have an infected pilonidal cyst, and I was instructed antibiotics and use hot compresses/take hot baths. I'm about halfway through my treatment for the antibiotics, but not feeling much better.

I've noticed that the area immediately around the cyst looks like it's bruising. Is this normal? What did I do wrong? The doctor was poking at it, could that have caused it?

good luck. i would not expect the antibiotics to work. i eventually had to get surgery with my third one. the brusing could be from the poking or sitting on it in the tub maybe. poor baby. the doctors have no idea what it's like. push for surgery if it keeps up. they can also remove sinuses from the area later after the infection clears up.

Having the doctor poking around at the cyst certainly didn't help and probably exacerbated the infection. If the antibiotics aren't working you will probably have to have the cyst removed. This is an outpatient procedure that can be done in the doctor's office. Hope this helps.
