The human misery that results from drug addiction both to the addict and the family of the addict is beyond calculation.
I think Singapore is on the right track, although it goes to show you criminals aren't deterred by much of anything (at least these guys won't do it again).
Pelosi will probably make a personal appearance to get them freed and then pay to move them to Mexico so they can traffic here without the threat of death for their work.

Its hypocrisy. Mules get hanged while alleged drug lords from Myamar are welcomed in Singapore. Deterent effects are unclear in complex societies. Either which way, lives are either destroyed or brutalised for officers involved in the judicial execution process, from the arresting officer, judge, wardens, executioners, doctors, grieving families. Many death sentences are mandatory, The accused have to prove innocence, not the other way round. Lets take a simple example. You are caught with a packet of gum. The judge tells you to prove to that you didn't import them, and btw any gum above 30 gms is considered trafficking and mandatory sentence follows so the judge hands are tied. All you get is a stupid letter from head of state that your family will find the conviction unacceptable but... Isn't it obvious? Maybe the family can ebay it for the most stupid letter sent by a vip.

Anyone with two brian cells firing knows that Singapore doesn't mess around.
Think back the kid who was cane for his little act.
To answer you question. I can't speak for Singapore.
We like to think we are more noble but you look at some of the cases on death row now. We are not that noble of people in many ways we haven't come far out of the trees.
The better answer would be what can we do so murder is not so common or crime.
Maybe we should be teaching morals and there is a thing call right and wrong.
That we should teach people that they will be held accountable for thier actions.
Instead of teaching situational ethics is the way to go.

Drug addicts is not only a social problem, it also resulting in several crimes. Many had resort to violent crime inorder to purchase the drug for consumption. Once they are drug addicted, they have no more human right, as their entire life was control by the drug. So, should the main culprit, drug traffickers, given a "human right"?? They should be hanged, as they had exploited sol many human right of drug addicts and the victims.

Why do you waste energy defending people who do not place value on human life? You don't think drug traffickers kill people?
