I know loads want to be more specific. The Egyptians had a very highly placed mole that gave away all the Isreali battle plans. The Egyptians thus choose the best day to hit the Israeli's which was Yom Kippur when most troops would be on leave and the frontier defenses at there weakest. The Egyptians also developed a plan to cross the Suez canal and water blast the protective sand burms and thus breach the Israeli side of the suez canal. Once across the outer positions were quickly over run. The Egyptians also new the Israelis would send there air force to attack and had a new SAM system that gave very tight cover to the Egyptian army. They also brought another new weapon the anti tank missile. These two systems would wreak massive havoc on the Israelis. The the other Arab countries pounced as well this really put the Israeli's in a bind. Once back in Israel proper the Israeli's started to hold the Arabs back and then started to push the arabs back into the sinai this really went badly for the Egyptians when the Israelis with the infusion of brand new M-60 tanks and F-4 fighters out flanked the Egyptians and cut of there supply lines but unlike in the past the Egyptians held there ground and withdrew in order not a rout like before. The Syrians were also getting pounded and forced to give up more land including the Goland hieghts. The Israeli's now went on the offensive by driving all the way to the northern end of the Suez and crossing over into Egypt there was nothing to stop the Israelis from entering Cairo as the Egyptian army was still in the sinai. It was then fortunate for the Egyptians that the UN called a halt to this war. And new borders were established it helped that bothsides could claim victory the Israelis had retained all of there land and egypt regained some of it's land and would get all of it when Sadat made peace with Israel. This peace has lasted to this day and has expanded to other Arab countries lets hope it continues to do so.

A bunch of Arab countries such as Egypt and Syria thought it would be fun to mess with the Israelis. I am not totally sure, but I believe before the Arabs ran home to Mommy, the Israelils actually pulled their pants down and spanked them.
At least that's the word on the street.

The Israeli's took out the Arab air bases the very first thing. They had the U.S. F15 Eagles, the Arabs had a bunch of Russian migs, and poorly trained pilots. No match. Their tank corps also kicked major butt. Again, no match. I am not pro Israeli, nor anti Arab, it's just that the Israel's were better trained and equipped. Plus they were fighting for there very existence, a STRONG motivation.

Israel kicked up after being caught off guard. Had the US let them finish it we might not be where were at now.
