How could you possibly think at the beginning of the war in Iraq that we were trying to help the Iraqi people. The war was against Iraq and brought on by the claims of finding WMD. We, in no way, invaded Iraq to free the Iraqi people because at that time they were the enemy. We did not go in to unseat Saddam. This came later, and however right it may be, we weren't the do-gooders here. You know there are about 130,000 US troops there and they can't handle the insurgencies how the heck do expect a puppet government to control the country?

I beleive that freeing a country from terrible oppression was the right thing to do, if we did nothing at that time-we would have had trouble with Iraq later on anyway...I agree that this long drawn out process is starting to upset and irritate so many of us here in the States because we want out troops home-but if we do not stay and make sure Iraq can stand on it's own two feet-those insurgents will get the best of Iraq-we started this, we need to finish it-and do it right! This may sound crazy comming from someone like me....my husband is active duty and has been over there twice already, but even he says this is what we need to do!
Even if you don't believe in the war-please support our troops-they need to know we care!!

The war was in fact a fiasco from near the beginning, there was really no valid reason for going to Iraq. That being said George Bush has put the country in a damned if we do and damned if we don't situation. We have made one huge mess and we should clean it up, however I do not see that happinning right away. Young people are going to die untimely deaths for a cause that no one understands. A purpose that no one agrees with, and a goal that we almost certainly acheive. Peace in the middle east is not possible until all partys can set down and talk it out. The main stumbling block to this is Isreal and there is really no good answer to that one. We have been trying to smooth things over since 1946 and 60 years later we have not made much headway. My opinion on the war in Iraq is we need to bring our people home and let the middle east and Iraq figure out how they want to run their country. We have meddled enough.

i imagine you mustn't in any respect start up a conflict except you're very almost particular that you may win it, and secondly, do no longer enter a conflict except you've earlier already an go out approach. that is sparkling that you're invincible once you settle on to have interplay in user-friendly words in wars of that you're one hundred % particular that you win. This become the stratagem of Colin Powell. So one needs help of each and every of the neighboring countries for a political answer to the prevailing difficulty in Iraq. No neighboring usa would properly be attracted to a persisted violence that could spill over throughout the Iraqi borders, which will honestly happen, after an American and British withdrawal.

this is a meaningless war. it was used as a distraction by our so called leaders so we have to trust them one way or another like it or not. like it or not, Iraq didn't have anything to do with 9/11, and it was truly none of our concern about what was happening in side another country. we used excuses which we couldn't back up as we went in, and now what? people, flesh and blood, souls are being ripped from a mans body, doesn't matter which side. if someone believes that this war is something to be supported, why don't we strap them with a m16 and send them off to the war instead of the many husbands, and sons and eyes of the innocent? these soldiers, Iraqi or American, are our fallen angels. it doesn't matter what we believe, in the end, we are just another soul taken away in a act of war. these are the fortunes of war, you will get nothing in return.

My personal opinion is that if we just leave Iraq on the spot, we are dead wrong. I say this first because to this point (theoretically) there have been over 3000 good men and women who beleived in their mission and purpose in being there and lost their lives. If we pull out, they lost their lives for nothing. I say this also because we have done such a marvelous job destroying their infrastructure that the society is generally out of control. It is peppered with sporadic sectarian violence which was not a problem when that bastard Hussein was in power. The big tragedy of this situation is for the most part, it is civilians and others that have absolutely nothing to do with the decision making process or politics that are losing their lives in this madness. These people have electricity for maybe 6 hours a day, children cannot got to school and mothers cannot go to markets for fear of the violence. Their way of life has been completely ruined. It may not have been to our standards, but it was considerably more stable and safe than it is now. We need to stay because someone need to protect the innocent lives and rebuild all that has been destroyed so they cannot at least go on in the facade or normalcy.
At the same time, if we send more troops or we're dead wrong. This is (in my opinion) essentially a lose-lose situation. I say this because we would be sending more troops in the name of democracy (yeah right!) and what we are doing is trying to force secularism and democracy on a culture of people whose lives are essentially influenced in every arena by their religious faith. Both of those things are in fundamental conflict with the principles of Islam. I view this occupation as nothing more than neo-colonialism in which a dominant force facbricates a case for taking over another culture of people and forcing their way of life on the natives of the newly coquered land. The ideas behind this was are fueled by ethnocentic thinking, hegemonic motives and Bush's personal vendetta. It is unrealistic to expect Iraq to accept democracy on our terms and it is unfair to force it on them. I see no way we can enjoy any significant success in this mission and we are sending more troops to get killed becuase Bush does not seem to want to understand that the war in Iraq is simply pissing into a 70mph wind.
Of course, if we dont send more troops we're dead wrong. Extra troops could function as a means of relief for battle exhausted soldiers and better protect from innocent bloodshed. It has been suggested that many soldiers are dying because they have been fighting day in and day out for 6-7 months and have cannot take a breather. They are slowly being overrun by insurgents. Clearly the number of soldiers we already have in place is not getting it done.
All my aforementioned ideas is why I say we lose whatever we decide to do. We cannot win in this situation. Now before some of you decide that I am being unpatriotic (screw you!), not supporting the troops (whatever!) and being negative and not addressing the positives of the Iraqi initiative, let me tell you that as far as I am concerned, I am being patriotic, supportive of the troops and positive simply by not having blind and unyeilding faith and looking at the war for what I beleive it to be. Was getting Saddam worth all the loss of American and innocent Iraq life, getting on bad terms with nations that have been our allies for years and the substantiated fact that the US and our foreign interests are going to be targeted harder than before? You can say yes, but I say Hell No!!! I think all these things should have been discussed and realized about 6 years ago and we would have seen that we should'nt have been there in the first place.

This issue is very controversial and it used to be more people favored the war when it first started and now the majority is against it. The fact of the matter is, no matter what happened, people would probably be pissed off.
Since we started this after 9-11, everyone was for going to Iraq but nobody who was for it thought about the consequences. They thought it would be a quick in and quick out. Now that we are still there and soldiers are still dying, they want us to just leave. They said that everyone was mis-lead with false information. But remember how patriotic everyone was after 9-11? Where is all that patriotism now? Everyone wanted revenge and something to be done to terrorists no matter what country they were in. Now that we are still battling the terrorists, they want to pull out before the job is done. They need to realize things don't always go to plan and sometimes takes longer.
On the flip side, what if we did nothing after 9-11? Everyone would have been mad if we didn't go after the terrorists. So it is a lose-lose situation so the best course of action is to do something about it. Everyone thinks we should be concentrating on our own borders and our own country. But if we don't take the fight to the other countries with terrorists, they will continue to bring it to ours. All those innocent civilians would be dying on our soil like 9-11 only all over the country. If we just concentrate on ourselves, others will eventually bring it to our soil more and more.
The terrorists are all over the world and there is nothing we can do to stop all of them but I think it is best to be on the offensive against terrorists than the defensive on our soil.
Also, keep in mind that most American's minds and opinions are very strongly influenced by the media. If all the media has to say is negative about the war, everyone will think negative. And that is what makes ratings for them, negative issues that people pay attention to. How often does anything positive about the war get announced on the news? All you see online in the news is a total tally for all the dead soldiers in the war. Where is the tally for all the hundreds of thousands of soldiers who have deployed and made it back safely? Unfortunately, this is all people hear so this is what they make their decisions off of.
I think everyone should try to put theirselves in the shoes of and Iraqi or Afghani civilian. Try to imagine the USA being under a dictator who says if you don't believe in what he does, then you will die along with the rest of your family. Try to be an innocent Iraqi civilian walking your kids to school and getting blown up? These countries have been in turmoil before we got there but somehow it is our fault for helping them to try to have some of the freedoms that so many Americans take for granted and don't think about. Like being able to talk freely about how you feel like me on here. I am glad to be an American and strongly support this country.

It is not just about helping the Iraqi's it is about keeping a terrorist regime from taking control of the second biggest oil producer in the world. Don't get me wrong it is not a war for oil but if Iran or some other sponsor for terrorism were to gain control of that kind of wealth the whole world would be at risk. People try to make this war seem like it means nothing but that is not the case it may be the deciding factor for the lives of millions.
