You have to look at things from a different perspective. You have to first realize that you can't make somebody love you. They will either be interested in you or they won't. Love only happens when both people are interested. Everyone is different, so don't let a past experience make you shy away from dating again. Never go into a date expecting everything to work out and never pretend to be someone you're not. DO go into it expecting to have a nice time. If things don't spark, just be honest with each other and decide to just enjoy the time together - you've at least made a friend and they may have a friend of their own they can set you up with that you would be more compatible with. Unless the situation is really bad, there is no reason to bolt out of there as fast as you can. If the spark isn't there, think of the whole situation as good experience and "date networking" where you may be able to introduce each other to a friend.

Hey, at least you had a relationship before. I never really had a girl before. If you like a girl, take my advice. Know her first. Sometimes you can get turned off by the personality of a girl even if she's the most beautiful girl around. Flirt later when you're sure about it. Rejection is a part of life, take it from someone who knows.

I totally know how you feel. I am the same way, I completly fear rejection. Sometimes though you just have to make a stand and do what your heart tells you to even though you are afraid to. Just like going in a haunted house or seeing a scary movie.
