When you use a slow cooker, you do not need as much water as you would cooking on top of the stove. When my recipe doesn't have enough liquid to cover the meat and potatoes, I make sure that the potatoes are under the meat. They seem to need the extra moisture, and by nestling under the meat, they can get it. You can add a little extra liquid, but I wouldn't worry about covering the mixture. Remember, they are in a closed pot and as the steam from cooking hits the lid, it condenses and drips back into the mix.

Your recipe calls for plenty of water! Slow cooking and keeping the lid on it will generate heat and steam to cook the food. Most crock pot cooking needs ar less water than roasting things in the regular oven does.

I use 1/2 to 1 cup water depending on how big the roast is..do not cover it all with water unless you want to lose the meat juices completely!Plus I check it every 2 hours (when cooking on low, every hour if on high)and baste it in the juices...trust me it will be better this way!

no not necessarily remember that the way you pot roast and potatoes are cooked to become tender is slow cooking(heat \hot vapors are rising or being absorbed into both. actually covering either would drasticaaly change their taste 1. any seasonong would be diluted into the water (leaving the inside of the pot riast were it belongs) and your potatoes would have started to fall apart.

I always ensure that the water just covers the top of the pot roast - you dont want dried meat or veggies! Dont panic it wont make it go soggy either!

Add a little bit more maybe another cup and just keep an eye on it... the moisture that settles on the lid will help to keep everything moist, just make sure you dont take the lid off too often that will cause it to dry out

If it did cover them, it would be a stew or casserole. Roasts usually use oil, or fat (lard or dripping), but some water is often added to keep it from drying out.

I find that it is best to cover meat and vegtables with water. makes the meat very tender.
