Do you believe in 100% honesty all of the time. Or do you believe honesty is over rated and if the truth is going to hurt someone then it is best kept to yourself.

I think sometimes it is better to keep quite as to not injure another. But to lie to someone on purpose is a different matter all together.

Telling the truth is generally a must, but leaving out something that would cause long term harm is a call on a case by case basis.
An example that comes to mind is the true story of the Von Trapp family (the family imortalized in The Sound of Music). When they were fleeing the Nazis and their lives were in danger, the nuns not only hid them, but stole the spark plugs from the Nazi detective cars in order to save innocent lives and stop injustice. Can you imagine interpreting honesty in a way that would have made those nuns take the Nazi agents to the hiding family because it would be dishonest to lie about their whereabouts? Honesty is noble and wonderful and should always be the first option, but life can throw situations at us in which we have to use our conscience to help us to do what's right and tactful even if it requires ommiting the truth. If we keep God in our heart as we stray from being honest, not only will we choose the right thing to do, but I believe if we do it in good conscience that He will forgive us.

You ask a very difficult question. Honesty is telling the truth. Honesty is keeping agreements/promises/ commitments. Honesty is doing the best you can to promote understanding and to avoid confusion. Honesty includes the value of maximizing gains for everyone, not just for self or for a select few. Honesty is being consistently true to values. Honesty is being truthful and fair in your dealings with others, no matter who they are. It is important in communication, because communication requires predictability. It is important because without it a civilization cannot maintain and grow and a people cannot sustain the values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Without honesty, chaos reigns. If the worlds leaders were honest, we wouldn't have a war in Afghanistan, Iraq and Gaza right now. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Wherever you see someone hurting another, you see the results of dishonesty. Dishonesty hurts, honesty heals. Honesty begins with me, for each of us. First be honest with yourself.

Of course you do not want to call some one fat or ugly even if they appear that way,but over all ,yes, honesty prevents a lot of problems and is the best policy.Being a straight shooter is a good thing

This is always hard. It depends I think on whether the issue is important, and who else is present. Insulting people in public is a bad idea, even if it's 'the truth'. If it's important, it can still wait till you are alone with that person.
So - no - there is a time and a place for everything. Also: pick your battles wisely.

100% honesty. Be truthfully tactful if you wish to spare someones feelings from the truth. Remember that truth never changes but lies do. Could you imagine the Savior of the world telling lies? I can't. Satan is the father of all lies, so that should tell you something.

Honesty is always best. If one is not comfortable in being totally honest with another (such as the question, "does this make me look fat?"), then silence is the best option or a change of subject.

Good question. Depends on the harm you are going to do, I think. I wouldn't tell my friend (or anyone for that matter) that the new clothes they are wearing makes them look fat. But I prefer an honest person where it counts. Would you lie to save a persons like, lets say, in WW2 in Germany? If you were hiding Jews, wouldn't you lie to the Nazi's to save them? =)

Honesty is good but unless confronted about something its best to keep mouth shut. Its not always best to tell everything you know.
