The new testament does not negate the old testament. The old testament had the law in it and the new, since Jesus died has a new covenant. Other that the law, everything else is important for us to read and study. God never changes.

Why do you people keep saying that the New negates the Old Testament? Jesus came to fulfill the law not negate it. The Old Testament is full of prophesies about Jesus, and the end times, the law, human history, and many, many other things we need to study so we can live the best life we can, and then live in Heaven for eternity with God, instead of eternity separated from God.
When Jesus fulfilled the law that does not mean the law is no longer valid. We still need to obey them, but if we fail then Jesus is there to forgive us, and pay the fine we face for breaking the law. That fine is eternal separation from God, and when Jesus died, and was raised from the dead, and ascended into Heaven that made it possible for us to do the same thing. But only if you accept that sacrifice made by Jesus for you.
Choose you today who you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

The scriptural 'old testament' was done away with (Hebrews). However, there is a scriptural old testament (the law of Moses) and an unscriptural old testament (Genesis-Malachi).
So which one we 'do away with' abolish will vary; and that is one of the divisions in Christianity presently in the USA.

Without the old testament there would not be a need for the new.The old testament reminds us of our need for a Savior. When we lack or are just unaware of our need for Jesus the old testament can come in pretty handy.

It is a History Book of Christ's Forefathers. HIS HISTORY is HIS brothers and sister's history. As Christians we are Children of GOD, brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ. We become Members of HIS CHURCH. The Old Testament is "for our learning" according to the New Testament. Read, study, and obey HIS WORD and become a Christian. Have a great day.

It doesn't. In the old testament people were bound by the law and they had to offer sacrifices for an atonement for their sins and it also predicted Jesus' coming.
The new testament abolishes the law because of Jesus' blood that he shed ont he cross of calvary that we may be able to come to him directly and he will intercede to the father for us.
You have to have both to make it complete.

The previous testomony is the Hebrew Scriptures. in the bible it incredibly is from Genesis with the aid of to Malachi. Jews don't think in the recent testomony as they don't settle for that Jesus Christ substitute into the promised Messiah.

The New Testament does not contradict the Old, therefore, it negates nothing except the concept that by "being good" you can please God and win His favor.

I would not say "negate" - I would say "fulfills it".
We read it because the entire 66 books that make up Holy Scripture have ONE purpose - to point the way to the Person of Jesus Christ.
St. Paul says that "all scripture is theopneustos (God-breathed)..."
