I know, I used to work in foreign exchange. I thought Netherlands money was so cool because it was not only different sizes for different denominations, but also different colors and it had different amounts of raised dots. How easy for the visually impaired!

Angilina, you realize they change the currency by adding new visual and security features all the time. Sure sounds like a waste of money just to make the dollar (look) prettier. Also, even poore nations such as Mexico and Bosnia assist the blind this way. STOP using cost as an excuse. If those poor nations can do that, then we can too. Our constitution does state EQUAL rights for ALL. Note the highlighted words. Currently the money is not providing equal rights to the blind. Im just lucky I can c the currency but I again should have to. There are several ways to process information. When will the USA stop using only one selfish and arrogant way. United we stand. BS. Thanks to the others on this threat who agree.

Primarily for economies of scale. Since each bill has identical dimensions, the same paper, ink etc. can be used for each production run. This helps make it more economical to produce all U.S. paper currency. Changing techniques to include various sizes, and additional colors would also require additional security measures and additional equipment to accomodate production. This would drammatically increase the cost the U.S. Dept of Treasury pays for producing U.S. currency.

There have been discussions of including identifying marks similar to brail to accommodate blind consumers, but I am not sure what has actually been implemented at this point.

I just saw something on tv about that. Some blind group is trying to push for money to be coded or something, so as they can make out each bill.

They can't see if if they are blind. Why don't they fix the money so a blind person just has to handle it a little and a recorder comes on and tells them which denomination it is?

If the US suddenly changed all of its currency, can you imagine the uproar it would cause? There are still countries in the EU, the UK for one, that use their original currency. And the US have added colour to their currency lately, although they are still the same size. Maybe it's just the rest of the world that's dumb because we have to have different sizes and colours for our notes whereas the Americans know to look at the number on each note before handing it over.

VERY GOOOD QUESTION:
For someone to not see this as an issue, i hope you never have to deal with blindness because this is such a simple fix which could save thousands time.

Because most American's in power are unable to think out of the box.

Netherlands (Holland) now use the Euro, best currency I used was in Poland you feel like a millionaire.

Deal only with 1's and the problem will not arrise. Ray Charles did it.

They have toys to help the blind with money..little gadgets and stuff that go on key chains.
