The atheist. They are not only teeching someone to feed themselves, but they are respecting their beliefs. Their help comes with no strings (i.e. "I will feed you if you listen to my preaching").

Both are doing his work, the only difference is that the missionary knows it and the atheist doesn't. I just hope that the atheist is busy planting the seeds when the missionary gets thier with the bag of food and bible. That way while he takes a break and enjoys the food from the missionary, he can also hear how he was doing the Lord's work as the missionary reads from the bible!!

A missionary with a bag of food and a Bible for sure. The missionary has the ability to feed the body with food and the spirit with the word. The athiest has a bag of seeds and a shovel, but is unlikely to ask God to bless the soil in which the seeds will grow therefore the seed can result in being useless, non beneficial to the hungry!

Hey, my uncles a priest out doing missionary work. i remember him saying a few years ago that they were building a well in an under developed village. I'd say that's quite helpful.
But you're right. In you're example, The missionary would only be helping them in the short term but is concerned about their spiritual needs while the atheist is helping them in the long term while unconcerned about their life after death. The two kinda make two parts of a whole.

Both. The missionary with the food feeds people now, and teaches them to pray for rain, which they need to feed people later, using the seed and the shovel from the atheist.

It takes all sorts to feed the world

Both is doing good work, but the Missionary can take the Word of God and use what it says about CROPS, yes that is in the Bible also. It tells of HOW to plant, HOW to sow, and HOW to reap so that even then there are volunteer crops that will come up the NEXT planting season. Yes you can take seeds and shoots from a crop anywhere you find them, and START a crop. Even Satan will do the will of God in certain circumstances. Example follows:
Once there was an old woman who went outside of her house on the front porch evey morning and prayed and shouted to God thanking Him for everything she had. Now mind you that she was extremly POOR and did not even have very much food to eat and was about to run out of groceries that day. There also was an evil man next door to her that watched her do this every day and thought to himself that he was going to show her there was NO GOD since he did not believe in God. So the evil man went to the store that night late and bought four bags of groceries and sit them on her porch waiting for her to come outside the next morning and start her praying and thankgiving to God for all she had, and praising God. Well the morning came and sure enough the woman came outside and saw the food and started praising God for the food. The evil man next door looked at her and said, "you old fool, there is no such thing as God, I bought that food and put it on your porch last night" The old woman just shouted all the much more and all the more louder, and said, "THANK YOU GOD for MAKING THE DEVIL PAY FOR this FOOD. Get it??

I think that both are doing the work of God. The athiest is teaching how to be self sufficient on a long term basis and the missionary, for the cost of listening to them talk about the bible, will feed them today. To someone starving, that would be a small price to pay

This reminds me of the saying 'it is better to teach them how to fish then to give them a fish every day". or something like that
:-)

The bag of seed will only feed people physically. The food the missionary will give someone with the Word will feed the soul which when fed they will never go hungry again. (Gosh, the bible is amazing isn't it! Do I hear an AMEN!)

Jesus left us with "the great commission" which was to go and bring all men to him. While helping feed the hungry is a wonderful thing for anyone to do, the missionary is trying to fulfill the comandments of God. I don't dismiss the wonderful work of the atheist, but he is only working for this life, not both this and the next life.
