Hmm, you know what - 120 pounds for a 5"10 guy is probably on the underweight side. I'm like 6"1 and 185 or so, and look fairly lean, so 5"10 at 120 sounds quite low. They should be eating plenty of complex carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes, yams, etc - and focus on resistance (weight) training exercises. Basically, to gain "good" weight (as opposed to fat) you gotta eat 'clean' and train like there's no tommorow!

I'm pretty sure that he is underweight. search online for the BMI (body mass index) and see what it should be for a male. I'm 5'10 and about 145, max, quite slim, but was even slimmer over the last few years. Have bulked out a wee bit this last couple of years. I'm in my mid twenties and just have a wirey frame, it's my build, and likely a high metabolism. I just don't put on weight easily. Perhaps in time his metabolism (if it is that) will change and he'll gain some weight. Just be sure that he's taking care of himself, eating the right things at the right times and not neglecting himself, and also that it isn't an eating disorder. All the best.

No, that is NOT normal. Could be hyperthyroidism or a number of serious physical maladies. It would be unwise to chalk it up to a "fast metabolism" and just start downing protein drinks.

See a Doctor of Internal Medicine first and then if that gets you nowhere, I would recommend an endocrinologist. Either way, for that height, 120lbs in substantially underweight to the point of putting a significant amount of strain on the heart and essentially every other organ as well.

Very serious!

I hope you are able to get to the bottom of the situation quickly and be well soon.

That sounds very thin. Try drinking "Ensure" or something like that to get some extra calories in your system. Better yet, you really need to go to a doctor to see if there are any serious underlying medical issues. The doc can also hook you up with a nutritionist to help you gain weight.

That is way to thin. You should be about 160-180. Try Ensure, or some type of protein drink. See your doctor and a diet councillor. There is help out there for you, just take care of this immediately, before you get very weak and sickly.

Rule of thumb is 100 pounds up to 5 feet and 5 pounds per inch.

Technically, that person should be 150 pounds, but your metabolism is also a factor

thats a BMI of under 18. he should be atleast 140lbs, to be considered healthy and normal.
if u just cant get the wieght back, go speak to a doctor, and provide the doc with a complete medical history (diet, past infections, family health history ) etc etc... o that the doc can work out whats needs to be done
