The normal Indian food consist of Pulses wheat and rice with the different vegetables. Now the Indians generally using the fat product for the wheat items and some what in the vegetables. So the day to day Indian food is not consisting of so many fat but the other varieties of food like fried items and the sweets consists fat of oil , butter and Ghee.(made from butter). so it is not true to say that Indian food is all the way fatty. OK?

Don't buy the lie. Carbs do not make you fat. White rice is junk food. Stay away from it. Brown rice is fantastic! You could eat it by the bucket full and you'd get healthy and thin. Know your good carbs from your bad. White bread - bad carb. Whole Wheat bread - good carb. Sour dough bread - bad carb. Hemp bread - good carb. Pasta from refined white flour - bad carb. Pasta from whole wheat flour - good carb. You can't lump an entire ethnicity's food all together like that. If we did, we'd never be able to eat anything. Yes, there are some Indian dishes that are fattening. But generally they are very healthy. Loaded in anticarcinogenics! Turmeric is the BOMB. Curried veggies are fantastic! Dahl is good stuff. Ghee is better than butter anyway. More healthy. You're far better off visiting a vegetiarian Indian joint than your average American place. Or Italian or Mexican. Lots more fat and empty calories in those places. Lot less healthy veggie items too.

Just like any cuisine it has its fattening and non-fattening dishes. A great deal of the kinds of dishes we see in Indian restaurants are the creamier, fattier based ones, which can often be high in salt, which is bad for you all round. However, there are no doubt lots of very healthy dishes too. Also, something to bear in mind is that a lot of your common-or-garden high street Indian restaurants often serve rather anglicised versions of the food catering to a specific British taste, and aren't necessarily good indications of what that cuisine should really be like. The same happens with Chinese food.

I for one love Indian food! But yes SOME of the receipes are fattening - due to creams and coconut milk.

Just chillout abit - some indian food is healthy, some indian food is unhealthy..! Gee, now there is a shock..!

Then the terrorist stuff at the end, madness...! Lay off the Korma and naan bread, and have a full fat coke. Its got coccaine in it - don't you know...

Oh please do stop talking about Indian food I just a lover of it, but cannot eat it as I have an hiatus hernia. Most food is fattening if indulged in. However, if taken in moderation I doubt whether Indian food is anymore fattening then any other food.

Have you ever seen an overweight Indian waiter? No of course not. They just watch the amount of Indian food they eat which must be every day.

I don't believe it is fattening. The amount of chillies in real Indian food can keep you running to the loo forever. Thats why they end up with stomach ulcers. One of my friends, Indian (from India) was told by her dietician to stay off Indian cuisine if she wants to gain weight.

because it is often fried or uses cream as a sauce base. But it does mean that it is bad for you. Your body needs some fat daily.
