I'm building a new computer and I can't decide if I should go with Vista. I know the guy that's helping me is going to try to sell me Vista (it's his job) and I want to be well informed.

Whenever anything comes out, initially, there will always be bugs to work out.

Do you really want to pay full retail price for a buggy product? Or wait for it to go on sale once it's fixed.

For all the hype about Vista, most people aren't really going to notice a huge difference about how work is done. It's just really a different look and feel. Many people will be sticking to Windows XP just because. Do you really think "BETTER PERFORMANCE!" means anything when you are talking about typing words in MS Word? Surfing the net? Burning a CD?

This is, after all, just an OS. We don't use the OS, we use the applications we run on the OS, like MS Office, IE, games, etc

Well, the hype is that Vista will be THE OS to have, so sure go ahead with Vista. First reports are that it is fantastic.
They say a lot of people where just waiting to get a new computer with Vista. I am one of them and will probably get my new computer this weekend.

I would personally go with Vista. I have been using is for a few weeks now and I like it a lot better over XP. However, it is a resource hog. I use the "Ultimate" version also.

I figure you might as well get it now and get used to it because it's not going to go away, so you might as well learn to use it and be comfortable with it.

I was seriously thinking about it until I came upon a site that explained what Microsoft Vista's "fine print" meant. It said that alot of information would be collected from your computer, and that upon Microsoft's descretion, they are allowed to add/remove programs as they see fit, without your knowledge or consent. I won't be upgrading. I will stay with my media Center 2005.

The reviews for windows vista don't look so good. I think you should stick with windows xp for the time being.

No. You will be totally confused and flustered at the massive registration process and fine print rules.
