We don't actually have an FBI as it were we have several intelligence and police groups to keep an eyes on the types of things that the FBI do for the US. MI5 as someone has said take care of internal affairs but these are usually affairs of state only. They are an intelligence agency and therefore do require the support of the police in most situations despite what spooks sometimes shows. GCHQ cover communications and cryptographic technolgies here and work mostly with MI5 and MI6. There is also the Serious Crime Division who work on such things as organised crime, drug smuggling and other internal policing issues.

the uk doesnt have an equivalent of the FBI the nearest thing would be MI5 which deals with terrorism the FBI in america exists due to the size of the country and a need for a country wide organisation to deal with organised crime, kidnapping and high profile white collar crime. The UK doesnt have specific organisations for different crimes nor do UK officers have the same jurisdiction issues there powers of arrest are Uk wide not state or county specific as in america.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is the branch of all British Police and many other Commonwealth police forces to which plain clothes detectives belong. It is thus distinct from the Uniformed Branch and the Special Branch. CID officers must have spent at least two years as uniformed officers before applying to transfer to the branch and receive further training when they do so. CID officers are involved in investigation of major crimes such as rape, murder, serious assault, fraud, and any other offences that require complex detection. They are responsible for acting upon intelligence received and then building a case, from analysis of the initial incident through to arrest and prosecution of any suspects.
The Security Service, commonly known as MI5 (Military Intelligence, section 5), is the United Kingdom's counter-intelligence and security agency and is part of the intelligence machinery alongside the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS or MI6), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS). All come under the direction of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). The service has a statutory basis in the Security Service Act 1989 and the UK Intelligence Services Act of 1994. Its remit includes the protection of British parliamentary democracy and economic interests, fighting serious crime, militant separatism, terrorism and espionage within the UK. While mainly concerned with internal security, it does have an overseas role in support of the mission.
The Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), commonly known as MI6, is the United Kingdom's external intelligence agency. Under the direction of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC), it works alongside the Security Service (MI5), Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS). SIS is responsible for the United Kingdom's espionage activities overseas.

As others have said there is no direct equivalent of the FBI. This is because the UK is not a federation like the USA, where local police forces each have independent chains of command to their local governments which means the federal/national government needs it's own investigative force. As the UK is a unitary state, basically the UK government has the ability to pass laws for all local forces nationwide (to a greater extent in England & Wales than in Scotland and Northern Ireland where there are different arrangements).
There are a number of agencies in the USA that share responsibility with the FBI for federal/national crime issues: among the most famous are the US Marshal Service and the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms). It is a mistake to think of the FBI as a single national police force, it's role and jurisdiction are extensive but are also limited to certain types of crime in certain circumstances. In the UK law enforcement, investigation and security issues are handled by numerous organisations.
There are 43 local police forces in England and Wales, each of which reports to a regional police board comprised of local government officials from the various local authorities they cover. Ultimately all these forces are the responsibility of the UK Government through the Home Office and Home Secretary.
In Scotland there are 8 regional police forces which have the same style regional boards as England & Wales, but the ultimate responsibility is not with the UK Government but with the Scottish Executive through the Justice Minister.
Northern Ireland has a single police force, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, which is largely accountable to an independent body trusted (more or less) by all sides of the conflict there, and not the Northern Irish Executive or the UK Government. All CID and Special Branch sections are merely departments of these regional police forces.
There are nationwide police forces which cover some of the responsibilities of US agencies like the FBI and others.
The British Transport Police operate across Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales - but not Northern Ireland) and report ultimately to either the UK Home Secretary or the Scottish Justice Minister (or sometimes both) depending on where they are operating.
The UK Atomic Energy Constabulary operate across all the UK, mainly at nuclear power facilities or escorting related materials, and reports to the UK Home Secretary.
The civilian Ministry of Defence Police covers all UK military bases and reports to UK Defence Secretary.
The newly created Serious and Organized Crime Agency is a fully national investigative service and so is the one with most claim to be a British 'FBI'. It draws officers from regional forces all over the UK and gives them appropriate legal powers for any case (such as a Police Officer, Immigration Official, Customs Officer.) Although it recruits Scottish officers and operates UK wide, it also works in co-operation with the Scottish Drugs Enforcement Agency, which also acts in an FBI type way in Scotland, taking on an investigative role across the 8 Scottish regional police forces.
The Security Service MI5 (formerly Military Intelligence, section 5) investigates threats to National Security from within the British Isles (UK and Republic of Ireland) as well as threats to British interests abroad. It's officers have no power of arrest but usually work closely with any of the above police forces or national agencies.
The Secret Intelligence Service MI6 (formerly Military Intelligence, section 6) has little role in domestic affairs and concentrates more on foreign matters relating to the national interest.
So, there is direct equivalent, but if you're looking for one then it's most likely SOCA.

Tere is no UK version. The FBI is a federal agency with juristiction nationwide. The CID in UK is simply police and local to force area. The regional crime squads often cross force boundries but are still just police officers. All police officers in England only have powers ogf a constable in England and Wales and Wales vpolice the same in England. But scots. police only in Scotland,Northern Ireland just there. So no real national police. The special Branch is also a just another branch of local police .

Scotland Yard is the closest to the Federal Bureau of Investigations or F.B.I.
MI5 and MI6 could be compared to Central Intelligence Agency C.I.A. or the National Security Administration or NSA, which is more or less the Department of Homeland Security.

They don't have one, as the UK has no federal police force. The closest you can get is a combination of Serious Organised Crime Agency (for serious crimes) and MI5 (for national security intelligence).
