I think you will find that on the booking form from airlines it tells you that there must be 6 months left, on your RETURN to U.K.

It is recommended that you have 6 months left on your passport (from your return date - not the day you depart). This is not a requirement by the UK, they just recommend this as it is possible that you could be refused entry to Spain. This is why no-one can answer the question, it is the country that you travel to that only knows the answer.
Personally I think you should renew it before you go. You will only have to do it in July anyway and they do add on any months you have left to the new passport. If you apply for it now you will get the new passport in time before you fly.

I think you will be fine with a holiday in Spain. I have been working overseas in places where you need a visa, middle east and Africa, these countries can be reluctant to issue a visa if your passport has less than 6 months, but then I was going out long term in a lot of cases.
I think however, a couple of weeks holiday in the EEC there is no requirement for a visa.

If you are a citizen of the EU (ie.British) No you can visit Spain or even live there. You need a passport for airtravel but it is not copulsory for entry to EU Countries .Therefore there is no time time restriction on length of passport .

Saw this on the lastminute.com website -
'Spain-
British : Passport Required-See 1
Note
Spain is a signatory to the 1995 Schengen Agreement. For further details about passport/visa regulations within the Schengen area, see the introductory section How to Use this Guide.
Passports
Passport valid for at least three months beyond length of stay required by all except:
(a) 1. EU/EEA nationals (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) and Swiss nationals holding a valid national ID card.
Note: EU and EEA nationals are only required to produce evidence of their EU/EEA nationality and identity in order to be admitted to any EU/EEA Member State. This evidence can take the form of a valid national passport or national identity card. Either is acceptable. Possession of a return ticket, any length of validity on their document, sufficient funds for the length of their proposed visit should not be imposed.
(b) nationals of Andorra and Monaco holding a valid national ID card.'
I've edited this a bit, for space requirements. I suggest that you read the full article and/or contact your nearest Spanish Embassy.
