For our anniversary i bought a huge empty jar, tried to sort out all of one colour of smarties, but it didnt work as i didnt have enough so I layered them in different colours.
Luckily there were some white ones in a packet.
What i did was layer them in the different colours, then added the white one smack bang in the middle of the jar at the front and put a label on it saying: You are one in a million.
He loved it.
(sorry it is all garbled, i am typing at work)
Also I made a book of things, I used emails he sent me, text messages, wrote I LOVE YOU in 50 different languages, cut out pictures of things that would mean things to us, and i bought a dvd, a little teddy bear and other bits and pieces (what ever he would like) and put it in a basket with tissue paper, glittery stars and hearts, and wrapped it in cellophane. when i gave it to him he was so happy!
If you shop around, you should be able to get things cheaply. Pound shop is great.

Bake him a nice little treat, maybe brownies, maybe if decorate them with hearts. Make up a love CD of songs that remind you of him (it doesn't have to be slow songs, as long as they remind you of him) and on the cover of the CD case, put of photo of you two on it. You can also make up a gift card towards anything you are willing to give him for the day(hence s*x, or a massage), say something that this gift card is good for the whole day. And then get a really nice card, and include your own little note on it.

If my girlfriend bought herself lingerie for my valentines day present i'd be pretty pissed off. Whats the point, you'll only take it off anyway. But some bedroom toy for you both to enjoy is a good start.

choclates goood bottle of malt whisky,item of jewelery,underwear,cd's,dvd's,etc,may be have a look on ebay under valentines,or unususal stuff you sure to find a great bargain somewhere,go and register yourself at mutual points before you do any shopping,and earn points for shoppping and searching for products using comparison sites
