Good points, Jim. I don't believe you can really help anyone else until you have yourself straightened out, so becoming a moral and decent human being should be anyone's top priority. That's how I believe one becomes "saved," anyway. After that you can extend outward to your family, then the community, then even farther after that.
It isn't selfish to look out for one's survival, but it wouldn't be wise to ignore your conscience in the process.

First priority is making Jesus the Lord of your life. Following the ten commandments would help every area of your life, including how to treat others.

how do you define decent and moral.... what are your standards.?.. how do you define service to humanity? and how do you convince others who disagree with you, that your standards are better.? everyone has different defintions.
when everyone has their own defintion of good, evil, and moral, how you come to a universal defintion without something holy pure and perfect to establish it?
"being saved" is not making oneself the top priority, it is making God the top priority, because he is the one with the perfect moral universal standard. After loving God the most in one's life, loving others is the second and greatest commandment. And out of this love, comes service to humanity.

Excellent Question!
I believe the answer is this:
In order to be the most decent and moral human being we must have all the best available resources. Those resources come in the form of gifts from the Father. These gifts are given to those who confess that they are sinners and are in need of a savior. Once a person trusts in the Savior Jesus Christ for their salvation from their sin, sin loses it's power over them and now they become better equipped to be a blessing to others. 'In order to help our neighbor remove a splinter from his eye we must first remove the log from our own' is our Biblical philosophy. But unfortunately, many of us jump the gun and forget about that log in our own eye and make fools of ourselves as we attempt to remove splinters from our friends in need.
I believe many would disagree on what exactly makes a person decent and moral unless we can find a foundation that we can all agree on. I believe God has provided that foundation in His Holy Word, The Bible. If we look for that foundation within ourselves, there would be no agreement. That is why it must come from God. It must come from outside of ourselves in order for us to all agree.
I hope this helps to answer your great question. Good luck in your search for wisdom on this matter.

The highest priority is to believe in Christ and accept His salvation, then to bring others to know this, life on earth is so short but life with God is eternal,so what is the sense in looking to the bodies welfare to the detriment of the immortal soul?

Darby,
NOT really, because that is a motivator for us and for others. If we choose to reach for heaven and that GOAL has within it that we assist others in reaching that goal then we have certainly assisted them in this process. GOD also wants us to trest others as we want to be treated (morality and humanity). The number one goal helps us to become more Christ-like in all ways. HE is our savior, our redeemer, our leader in this cause. HE was the perfect example. HE was the only sinless man EVER! Do you need a BIBLE study-partner? I would be glad to assist in any way that I can. Have a great day.

The term King James Version Christianity is very confusing. Both Protestants and Catholics use a 'King James Version' translation of the Bible. Please clarify the above question.

Your questionis flawed. Whether it is KJV or NIV or RSV, anyone who follows the teachings of the bible is a christian.
The priority of a christian is NOT to get salvation for himself/herself, but to do the will of God.

Everything you mentioned is involved with the christian life.....we get saved....and we serve others. Salvation is the priority though...because without it, life would be worthless.

There's no such thing as a "KJV Christian" and "Fundamentalist Christianity" is a misnomer.
