Simply put, the Atkins diet is (or was) so popular because it got results. People lose weight when they are on a strict Atkins diet. Period. When you severely restrict carbohydrates, your body is eventually forced to use fat as an energy source, which is why you lose so much weight on the Atkins program. However, the Atkins diet doesn't make long term sense, and many people on the program will complain of feeling no energy and generally lethargic - your body needs some carbohydrates - it's your body's preferred source of energy.

Yes people are easily led. The Atkins diet was popular because it works. In addition, several very large scale studies, including one by the American Heart Foundation, have concluded that it is the most efective method of losing weight and does in fact result in lower levels of cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Biggest problem with it is people not reading the whole book andf therefore effectively making up their own version which usualy involves eating large amounts of meat - which is not the point at all.

Many people ask me how they can slim down. I recommend that people eat right and exercise. However, if they would like a little "help", I suggest using natural Hoodia (it's important to note that not all Hoodia works well, even if the bottle says "pure" or "standard").

The Hoodia sold at http://www.browneyea.info/free-diet-pills.php is in my opinion the best Hoodia on the market. It's pure, has no side effects, and they give you a free 15 day sample (there is a $7.99 shipping and handling charge, but they also give you free recipe and diet guides). Fantastic results have been seen with this particular Hoodia.

It gave quick results and people got to eat the fatty foods.
btw: Atkins does work but ONLY if you follow it to the letter.
You can vary from it at ALL. You have to take all the vitamins and test yourself regularly.

When you have to keep that disicpline for any period people gave up on it.

the atkins diet was a perfect diet for todays society, rapid weight loss, genius, but at a cost, you would lose the weight but also abuse your body in doing so. It was also a temporary diet, you could not sustain this diet for more than two weeks without getting ill.

It was popular because you could drop weight very fast , but still eat steak, bacon, sausage, etc. The problem is, too much animal fat! My husband went on Adkins diet, lost 28 lbs. very fast, loved the diet because he loves steak, and meat grilled out doors. Problem----had to have heart by-pass surgery. The heart surgeon told him to stay off the Adkins diet, as it has too much animal fat in it.

When eating a lot of protein and less carbonhydrates, you start burning your fat instead of your food.

Hope that makes sense
