It is "normal". It's more common outside the U.S. though. When I was younger it bothered me because I thought people might wonder what I was doing. But, in reality, no one notices or really cares. Lots of movie buffs, critics, writers go to movies alone so that they can focus on the movie and not on the person(s) they are with.

To help, try going earlier during the matinee where there are more "single" movie viewers (the evening shows tend to have more "couples" and groups).

Maybe take a notepad and write down details of the movie, characters, etc. (as a reviewer or blog-writer might do).

Go early, sit in front, be nice to yourself.

There is nothing wrong with going to the movies alone. After all, you are there to see the movie not socialize with a friend I felt the same way at one time. However, I would rather go alone then sit through a movie I did not want to see just to have someone sit next to me.

To tell you the truth, people will wonder for no more than a second why you're alone. Sure, it's the norm to go with someone or some people, but I've known people who go to the movies alone. Plus, I think only shallow people would think it was odd, and you can ignore them easily. It's really no big deal, everyone will be paying attention to the movie anyway, and you should be enjoying it too.

It is better to go out alone in a movie than to rent a DVD and watch it alone at your house. At least at the movies you can accidentaly meet a stranger even if it is the cashier. The possibilities are more to meet a person going out than to stay inside home. BTW I have been alone out for a movie alone.

A lot of people, including myself, go to movies alone. The world is just used to seeing people in group or couples. Go for it!

TOTALLY NORMAL! If you feel odd about it you might want to start out by going when it won't be very crowded such as a a matinee or a random weeknight. In other words, avoid a Friday or Saturday night when the theater will be very crowded until you feel comfortable going by yourself. I think it's awesome you are considering this. Embrace that piece of independance! It will be more freeing than you realize.

watching a movie alone is not a bad choice but a person can watch a movie alone if he was depress. if someone go for a movie alone i think he would be tensed. he has not to worry because it was a part of life. so i think watching a movie alone is a normal one.

Why would you look odd ? A good movie is worth going to see , and who knows maybe you would meet someone that is there for the same and she would notice you , doing as she , things in common .

widely used. I see widely used-searching human beings on my own in movie theaters each and every of the time! the in user-friendly words pathetic journey I ever had become at the same time as i become with a collection of human beings and one among them had already examine the movie's plot and couldn't close up about it, and that spoiled the movie. i'm a teenager and do not have duties and would watch video clips each and every time i want to, so I in many cases bypass out with some acquaintances. yet not in any respect lower back will i bypass with the type who already recognize what the movie's about!

I do it all the time. Generally since I want to see a movie no one else wants to see. I like to watch movies that make you think which are not necessarily the most popular films. However what ever the reason is for you it is okay.
