This is the first time I've really felt like just not doing school because I'm sick. I'm afraid I'll be really impatient, and all I really want to do is go to bed. So, should I give my kids the day off or should we somehow get through this?

We've been homeschooling for two years, I hardly ever give the kids a day off unless it's a holiday. I just don't feel good.

If you don't feel good, take the day off. If you don't, you'll lose patience with your kids and won't get much accomplished anyway.

This may be a good time to see how well your kids do when you're not around. Give them a list of assignments, and then go to bed. Tomorrow, or later when you wake up/whenever you feel better, see how your kids have done with their school work. If they've done it all, praise them and maybe give them a reward. If not, just recognize that perhaps they aren't at this level yet.

I hope you feel better soon!

Make it a more relaxed day. Ask the kids what they would like to do--read stories, just do art... In school, teachers have substitutes who usually only give the kids some sort of busy work. Let your kids do some other stuff while you take care of yourself.

I know just how you feel, at the moment I have the tooth ache from hell and I cant get in to see the dentist until Friday! Ive had my daughter finishing off a project she has been working on, thats one of the great things about home school, the children dont always have to be interacting with you, working on their own teaches them independence.

Two years and no sick days? Yes, take the day off. Studies show that most homeschooled students are several YEARS ahead of their age-group peers by 8th grade, so missing one day (or two or three) will not plunge your children into stupidity.

If you're sick, you need to recover. Sleep, drink lots of water.

Give the kids a day off. It's good for them anyway. It sounds like you won't get much done in any case.

Take a day off...if you aren't feeling well, you won't teach well...have your children practice what they have learned so far and go back to bed.
