A friend of mine has invited me and my family over to watch the Super Bowl. They are providing food and a keg. She is also calling it a housewarming party since they just moved in about a month ago and nobody has really been to see the new house. She told me that we didn't need to bring anything but, I just can't do that. So, since food and beer will be provided...what should I bring?
What do people give as housewarming gifts these days?

Having just moved into a new home, whether its NEW or new to the buyer, there are always unexpected repairs to be done. There is also the element of surprise of what needs to be repaired, replaced, repainted etc. I would get a lowes or home depot gift card, whichever is closer, and I would also get a small potted plant and attach the card to that. This way, they have a little something in their new home that reminds them of you, and a little money on a card for an unforseen repair, or a want, need or desire to have something else. I think its nice of you to care enough to do that for them. If the amount of money you have to spend is an issue, and you only have say 10 or 15 dollars, I would buy that many one dollar lottery tickets and use them during the game for prizes. If your going to do something like that, have some trivia questions ready about "football" or the "superbowl" history, and who ever answers first or right, gets to pick a lottery ticket. We do things like that on commercials. It just livens up the party and keeps conversation going. What ever you decide, I am sure it will be nice, because you are taking the time to care about the gift you choose. When you decide, hit the edit button and tell us what it was you decided on! The last housewarming gift I gave was to a good friend who married his college sweetheart after almost 20 years apart. I went to a specialty gift store, and got them a brass door-knocker, engraved with their names. They nearly fell out of their chairs. I know it sounds expensive, but it really wasn't; I think it cost about $30 total, and to this day that knocker is on their front door. The store was called "Things Remembered," and I think it's a national chain. At least I've seen them in almost every mall I've been to.
Just a thought. Hope this helps. Gift certificates or gift cards work too, especially to Home Depot or Lowe's. Homeowners practically live at Home Depot (at least I do!).

One,no matter what, I never go to a party empty handed. So a veggie platter, chips and a dip etc... For a gift, depending on what you want to spend. I would get a new kitchen garbage can, and fill it with household items. Or a nice wicker hamper, and fill it with laundry items. Put a big bow on top.

how about some little thing that you know they need, maybe for the kitchen, since they are providing some food....new kitchen towels, or a little sun-catcher for the kitchen window..
A candle or two....
If they have a yard, maybe some seeds or a gift certificate to a garden store??
The ideas could be endless.

A potted plant is always great and a neutral gift. However, gift certificates to a home supplies store e,g bed, bath and beyond or IKEA is also a great idea.

A basket filled with flavored coffees, jams, jellies, candies, dried fruits- yummy things to enjoy that people wouldn't buy themselves, but would be nice to consume while taking a break from unpacking yet another box of cd's.

pretty hand towels (for bathroom)
picture frame,
a set of really nice sheets
pot holders
a Tupperware tea pitcher
a nice set of flatware, or a knife set with butcher block
scented candles
candle stick holders.
maybe even something antique.
a blender
a nice nice not cheap coffee maker
some bake ware.
that's all I can think of for now... my brain is still sleeping on me, I just got up.

Perhaps a bottle of wine; some neutral colored guest towels and soaps (unless you know the colors of her bathroom) a candle; a gift card - just something they can use in their new home.
