Dharma (Sanskrit:) or Dhamma (Pāli) (Natural Law) refers to the underlying order in Nature and human life and behaviour considered to be in accord with that order. Ethically, it means 'right way of living' or 'proper conduct,' especially in a religious sense. With respect to spirituality, dharma might be considered the Way of the Higher Truths. Dharma is a central concept in religions and philosophies originating in India.

Progressing towards the righteous path is dharma. Rebels please stay out of this topic. This is not for you. Scriptures in all religions, prescribe a certain way of doing certain things. For a disciplined person, doing it the right way comes naturally and without his awareness he follows dharma. Right from childhood, discipline of mind and body should be taught as a way of living. If followed, Dr. Kalam's question will be answered - combating terrorism!

Dharma refers to that which is constantly existing with a particular object. We conclude that there is heat and light along with the fire; without heat and light, there is no meaning to the word fire. Similarly, we must discover the essential part of the living being, that part which is his constant companion. That constant companion is his eternal quality, and that eternal quality is his eternal religion.

Dharma is
"that which is constantly existing with a particular object"
"that which sustains one's existence."

Just like the Dharma of the water is liquidity and heat and fire are the Dharma of the fire, similarly the Sanatana-Dharma is the eternal occupation of the eternal(Sanatana) living entities in relation with the Sanatana(eternal Lord).
