Crock Pots are very safe and handy to leave on all day (or night) if you use basic common sense. Like any other heating appliances, just use the basic safety rules

*Keep flamable and combustable items away from Crock Pot.
*Never run Crock Pot without liquid in the crock.
*Leave the Crock Pot on low when left un- attended
*Never use an extrention cord with a Crock Pot.

Most any dish will become a slow cooked to perfection, piping hot meal with 8-10 hours, on low in a Crock Pot on low. When I leave my Crock Pot un-attended to cook for me, I set it up on the lid of my washing machine. I have a plug right there and it is a safe enough open area.

Crock Pots make a lot of sense with today's higher energy costs. you can cook at about the same cost per hour as running a 60-100 watt light bulb.

I hope this helps. Bon Apitite`.

Crockpots are designed so the working person can fill them with food, plug them in and turn them on. Work all day, and come home to dinner that's ready to eat. Wonderful invention.

They're designed to cook slowly, all by themselves. Just be sure that they're not touching anything else.

I leave mine on all day, and never had a problem. They are a slow cooker. Coils go around the sides of the pot, therefore will not burn anything. I have even used a small coffee can well oiled, and used that to bake a cake all night. Takes about 6-8 hours. It is perfectly safe, thats how they are made, for long time cooking.

You're not the only one who gets squicked by leaving things on when you're not home. But I have no problem with leaving the crockpot on. I just make sure it's on a level surface with nothing flammable near it (just in case!) like a dishcloth.

Normally I'm home anyway when I'm using it, and nothing has ever happened like spill-overs or smoke or flame. It just sits there and quietly does its thing!

You know, I got a crock pot for Christmas and was scared to leave it on while I wasn't there. I went home for lunch yesterday put some stuff in there to cook on low and everything was fine when I got home at 5:30. Crock pots were made to cook food all day and not have to worry about sticking around to watch it. Go ahead and try it- Good luck!

Yes they are pkay to leave on while away from home. I do it all the time. Right now my supper is in a crock pot. They heat slowly from the sides so food won't burn and the counter underneath does bot get hot.
