I think some of the most important things for a love relationship to flourish is a true friendship, where trust, respect, and honest communication is emphasized. Also being really proud of who you are with. I think it creates real intimacy. The closer you get emotionally the better the physical part of the relationship is. I mean sex is great, but sex with love is much better and more fulfilling in my opinion.

I think it is different for everyone - but some things that should never be overlooked are trust and respect. If two people can trust and respect each other, even if they disagree, a relationship (romantic or otherwise) is bound to be stronger.
And on a more personal level, my fiance and I have a great relationship and (other than trust and respect) I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we can enjoy eachother's company without being physical. We can do many things - work out together, read together, play a board game, etc - and just enjoy being together. The only physical necessity for our relationship is holding hands, (it's been proven to lower stress levels too!). That's not to say we don't kiss or hug or anything, but it's just not the focus of our relationship.

A loving relationship there should always be trust, honesty, communication, understanding, friendship, compromise. I think it is very important that you can be yourself with the person you love. You should be able to share you dreams and your fears. You should feel like you can talk to them just about anything. I think affection and sex is different for each person, so it's important that you both are on the same level with affection and with sex. One of the most important parts of a loving relationship is that you ALWAYS appreciate each other. And of course expressing you love in the things you do.

Communication, respect and compassion. Everything else is fluff.
GLSigma has some good answers, although I do not agree with the unconditional love. All love is conditional there is no way around it. Even kids and pets love conditionally. If you think I am wrong, then why get busted up when your significant other cheats or hits? If you loved unconditionally then you would never stop loving someone regardless of what they do.

1) Honesty, to start with!
2) Communication and Understanding.
3) Compromise
4) Same future goal
5) Same value
Without all of the above, love will turn to hatred easily.

trust, honesty, understanding, communication, mutual respect, affection, unconditional love. If there's something missing in your relationship, you'll be able to tell.
newoldnew99, I disagree. Physical touch is necessary when in LUST. When in Love, you should want to touch and be near the person, but also be completely content not touching them at all.

I am not going to say Trust. Trust is a by-product of Love. Trust comes naturally when you love someone. You don't Trust someone in order to Love someone. Love first and everything else will come naturally.

Communication is key. Then honesty, trustworthiness, compassion, adoration, acceptance, love, and the ability to see past the flaws. If you have none of these, then you have no relationship.
